PCIe SSD for boot drive + HDD on Intel Optane for storage

I recently bought a prebuilt PC that came with Intel Optane Memory (IOM) to boost a 1TB HDD.

I also ordered a Samsung m.2 PCIe 500GB SSD.

With the IOM 'gumstick' already attached, there are still two open PCIe m.2 slots on my mobo. (I am able to use slot 1 without disabling my SATA 2.2 port for the HDD.)

As the title suggests, I was wondering: If I install a PCIe SSD and make that my boot drive, then format my HDD to use for storage, will my HDD still be boosted by the IOM? Is this possible at all?

Thanks in advance.

Hi Primu,

Thank you for posting in the Intel® communities.

Indeed, it's possible to accelerate a secondary drive with the latest driver version for the Intel® Optane™ Memory, however there are some requirements that your system must have, otherwise the secondary drive acceleration won't be possible.

I recommend you to check the following article and make sure your system meets the requirements: https://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/support/articles/000027987/memory-and-storage.html Secondary/Data SATA Drive Acceleration with Intel® Optane™ Memory

Let me know if this information answers your concern. If you have any question about the information in the article above, feel free to ask.

Have a nice day.

Thank you!

I've successfully installed and set up everything as I had hoped with the help of the provided link. I'm now booting from my PCIe SSD and installing secondary data (multimedia/games/etc.) on the IOM-enhanced HDD, so everything is running quite fast!

Cheers
