Hello 1119553797,

Thank you for contacting Intel Technical Support.

In order to further assist you with your Intel® Optane™ Memory configuration please reply to the questions below:

• Are you trying to accelerate your primary drive (boot drive) or a secondary drive?

• If you are trying to accelerate a secondary drive, had you tried the steps on the following link?

https://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/support/articles/000027987/memory-and-storage.html

• Is the system is recognizing the Optane memory as a storage device on the Windows disk manager?

• Have you already changed the SATA mode in your BIOS from AHCI to "Intel RST premium and system acceleration?

• Is your BIOS showing you this option?

If the "Intel RST premium and system acceleration" is not showing on your BIOS you will need to contact your computer manufacturer so they can assist you to troubleshoot the issue.

• Can you provide us with the specific model of your MSI PC since the text file you shared does not show a specific model?

We will be looking forward to your reply.

Best regards,

Josh B.

My notebook model is GP63 8RE and I'm going to accelerate a secondary drive. My BIOS supports Optane and I changed SATA mode to "Intel RST premium and system acceleration".

Hello 1119553797,

Thank you for your reply.

Based on the "https://www.intel.com/content/dam/support/us/en/documents/memory-and-storage/optane-memory/intel-optane-memory-user-installation.pdf Intel® Optane™ Memory Installation Guide" section 1.2"Minimum Requirements for Intel® Optane memory" you can read the following:

- Slow media (disk to be accelerated): Only a single pass-through disk that is the active system/boot drive can be accelerated. The acceleration of RAID volumes or other multiple disk configurations is not supported. Please see below for supported slow media options.

  • SATA HDD – single pass-through
  • SATA SSD - single pass-through
  • SSHD - single pass-through

Since your OS drive is an NVME it cannot be accelerated.

Based on the "https://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/support/articles/000026040/memory-and-storage/intel-optane-memory.html Software and Platform Support for Intel® Optane™ Memory" your system may need a BIOS update to support secondary/data drive acceleration:

Based on the https://www.msi.com/Laptop/GP63-Leopard-8RE/Specification GP63 Leopard 8RE product specifications and the https://www.msi.com/Laptop/support/GP63-Leopard-8RE# down-manual GP63 Leopard 8RE manual I cannot see any reference to Intel® Optane™ Memory as supported or to be Intel® Optane™ ready from the box and possibly a firmware update was released to support the Optane memory technology.

I found https://www.msi.com/faq/notebook-2996 this link on your original equipment manufacturer (OEM) website that refers to your PC and provides some instructions on how to setup Optane.

We advise you to get in contact with your OEM for further instructions and to get a BIOS update in order to support the secondary drive acceleration and to verify if your PC is going support the secondary/data drive acceleration option.
