Error Enabling Optane

Recently i had a issue with my pc that i resolved but i had to add windows again and delete all my drivers. The last time this happened i installed the optane drivers quick and easy, but this time when i downloaded it and pressed enable an error message came up and said "An error has occurred" i went into the UEFI and turned the optane off to see if that was the problem only to find my computer restarting several times and not loading. so i turned it back on and reinstalled the drivers but the same thing keep happening. then i installed intel RST and got a message with a caution sign over my optane. If someone could please help me that would be great.

Hello Geenie555.

Thank you for your reply.

To answer your question:

Disk Management is a system utility in Windows that enables you to perform advanced storage tasks. Please find some ways to open the Disk Management below:

Way 1: Open it from the Quick Access Menu.

Right-click the bottom-left corner (or Start button) on the desktop to open Quick Access Menu,

and then choose Disk Management.

Way 2: Access Disk Management via Run.

Use Windows+R to open Run, type diskmgmt.msc in the empty box and tap OK.

Feel free to use this link as a reference on how to access to the Disk Management:

https://www.isunshare.com/windows-10/7-ways-to-open-disk-management-in-windows-10.html

• Please take a screenshot of the Disk Management showing all the disk and partitions.

• We will like to know if you disable your Optane memory before reinstalling your operating system.

We will be looking forward to your reply.

Hi Geenie555,

After checking the information in the thread I'm not sure if you have disabled the Intel® Optane™ Memory from the application or if you actually disconnected it physically from your system without disabling it first from the application. I'm asking because it doesn't appear in the SSU report that you provided previously nor in the Disk Management screenshot.

On the other hand, from the Disk Management screenshot, I noticed that you don't have a reserved unallocated space of at least 5MB in your drive. This is necessary for the module to work properly. However, let's focus on this later and try to figure out why the module doesn't appear in your system.

If you were able to install the module previously then you should have your BIOS properly configured, but we can check it just to be sure. These are the settings you should check in your BIOS:

  • SATA Mode Selection set to Intel RST premium with Intel Optane.
  • M.2_X PCIE Storage RAID Support set to Enabled.
  • CSM set to Disabled.

Since you are using an ASUS* motherboard, you can check the following guide for additional details about where these settings are in BIOS: http://dlcdnmkt.asus.com/microsite/Optane-Memory-SOP.pdf

Additionally, you should have had installed your Windows OS* using a GPT partition style. Could you please confirm this?

If everything is properly set and you have the Intel® Optane™ Memory connected, could you please check your Device Manager to see if the module is recognized? Please attach a screenshot of it.

I'll be waiting for your response.

Have a nice day.

Regards,

Diego V.

So do you think i deleted a drive without enough space for the optane?

Hello Geenie555.

Thank you for your reply.

To answer your question:

"So do you think I deleted a drive without enough space for the Optane?"

From the Disk Management screenshot, we noticed that you don't have a reserved unallocated space of at least 5MB at the end of the drive. This is necessary for the module to work properly. Since you reinstalled your OS seems to be that at the moment of partitioning your C: drive you did not reserve that space.

"I did disable the Intel Optane when I reinstalled my operating system because I have had some issues before and I called the company that sold me the pc and they said to disable Intel Rapid Storage in the bios."

This could be one of the reasons why your system is not able to detect your Optane memory. Please, back up your information and follow the http://dlcdnmkt.asus.com/microsite/Optane-Memory-SOP.pdf ※Installing OptaneMemory on RAID mode OS guide to reinstall your OS and do not forget to leave a reserved unallocated space of at least 5MB at the end of the drive at the moment of partitioning your HDD.

Based on the "/servlet/JiveServlet/download/563548-191037/Screenshot (6).png Screenshot (6).png" you shared with us there is still some metadata in the Optane memory and we advise you to run the "Clear metadata" option before reinstalling your OS using the Intel RST software.

We hope you find this information useful.
