Intel AC-8265 card is not connecting with FT PSK setting

    Sirosh

      Hi ,

Intel AC-8265 is not getting connected when the cisco setting is FT PSK. but when the cisco controller setting is PSK or PSK+ FT PSK  its getting connected. Why this card is not supporting FT even though the card support 802.11r

      Attached the cisco setting

            Hi Sirosh,

We understand that you're having an issue where your device with an Intel® Dual Band Wireless-AC 8265 adapter is not connecting to your networking using Cisco FT settings for roaming, we'll be glad to assist.

As a recommendation we can provide, make sure to be using our latest driver package 20.60.0, also make sure to use Windows® 10 since our adapters support roaming only on this Windows* version.

In case the issue persists, send us a copy of the file generated by the Intel® System Support Utility and we'll check this on our end.

            Regards,
            Leonardo L

              Hi Leonardo,

Thank you very much for your reply.

I have few queries as below , Could you give answer for the same,

              1) Does intel 8265  support FT 802.1x or FT PSK only in Windows 7 version though any driver updates ?

              2) Is there any latest intel card which will support FT 802.1x +CCKM in windows 7?

              Regards,

              Sirosh M

                Hi Sirosh,

More than welcome to assist you, checking on the product brief of this adapter 802.11x is supported by it, additionally I found a Cisco support forum guide here that explains how to configure this in Windows* 7.

As for other adapters that support 802.11x, I checked and our most current Wireless-AC adapters support this wireless protocol.

Glad to hear that you were able to implement this on Windows® 10 using our latest driver package.

Let me know in case you have any other questions or need more support from my end.

                Regards,
                Leonardo L

Thanks for the answer. but I was looking more on the fast transition (FT) mode

                    Hi Sirosh,

I get you, we can let you know that our most current AC adapters (7260,7265,8260,8265,9260/9560 series) do support FT 802.1x independent of the Windows* version used. Bear in mind that Intel supports up to Cisco* CCXv4, as there are no plans to support CCXv5.

Also as a tip for you, CCX has to be enabled in the driver installer as it comes disabled by default in our generic driver package.

                      Hi Leonardo,

                      Thanks for the information.

                      If I understood correctly,

                      1) Intel new Adaptors (7260,7265,8260,8265,9260/9560 series) do support FT 802.1x only on Windows 10 Version and does not support FT 802.1x in Windows 7 version

                      2) Intel new Adaptors (7260,7265,8260,8265,9260/9560 series) support CCXv4 on both Windows10 and Windows7 versions

                      Please confirm the above statements.

Also we are facing issue on CCKM support with Windows 10 and intel-8265. The card is not recognising the wireless network when enabled CCKM in the cisco controller. Our Cisco network has 2500 series (AIR-CT2504 controller with firmware version 8.0.110.0

                        Hi Sirosh,

Regarding the confirmations, our current AC wireless adapters support 802.1x independently of the Windows* version you're using, this includes Windows* 7 as well. You got the second point correct, we only support CCX up to version CCXv4, CCXv5 is not supported by Intel at the moment.

Additionally, in case you're still having issues with CCKM in Windows® 10, we would suggest creating a support ticket with Cisco* as from our end we don't go deep in support for Cisco* CCX or CCKM. We usually update our generic driver packages so you can use them on your environment.

                        Regards,
                        Leonardo L

                          Hi Leonardo,

                          Thanks for your reply.

Does the intel cards support Fast Transition(FT) in widows 7 ? Or does it support Fast Transition(FT) only in Windows10 ?

When we tested in our lab, Fast Transition(FT) in windows 7 is not working. We would like to know to connect to  fast transition( FT) mode is it required to move it to Windows10? or can we do some configuration in the windows 7 to enable fast transition (FT)?

                          Regards,

                            Hi Sirosh,

If you're referring to the 802.11r (Fast BSS Transition) standard, we would like to inform you that our current AC wireless adapters only support this under Windows® 10. This is more of a operating system limitation as this is the way that Microsoft* implemented the network stack in this Windows* version. If this is the mode you're referring to then we might need to consider upgrading the systems to Windows® 10 for full support of this roaming feature.

We hope this information helps you.

                            Regards,
                            Leonardo.

                              Hi Leonard,

On the topic of CCKM Support of intel cards with Win10 we need some help from you. You have already mentioned the below statement

" you're still having issues with CCKM in Windows® 10, we would suggest creating a support ticket with Cisco* as from our end we don't go deep in support for Cisco* CCX or CCKM. But as the CCKM was working with Win7  and our cisco setting are same for Win7 and Win10 test cases could you be help us to get an idea on this issue

                              Regards,

                                Hi Sirosh,

I get you, what happens is that since we just update our drivers in general for all of our adapters, we don't troubleshoot that much Cisco* scenarios.

I was able to check online and found this thread from Cisco support forums mentioning issues with Windows® 10 with 802.1x, although it doesn't mention if it was with an Intel wireless adapter.

You may try checking this thread or you can also try submitting a ticket with Cisco* support on this one.

                                Regards,
