Thanks for posting. We understand that you would like to troubleshoot your wireless adapter hardware and confirm if it can be replaced with a different model.
Both Intel® WiFi Link 5100 and Intel® Centrino® Advanced-N 6205 form factor is PCIe Half MiniCard, so they'll fit in the same slot. However, in order to learn what Intel wireless cards can replace your current adapter, we recommend contacting the Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) in order to find out what products are compatible with your laptop. Just like any other device, not all wireless adapters are physically and electrically compatible with all systems. Therefore the integration must be validated by the OEM.
Please notice that Intel® WiFi Link 5100 is a legacy adapter and doesn't have interactive support. You can find the available self-service support options here:
- Customer Support Options for Discontinued Intel® Wireless Products
As a general recommendation, you may try the following after backing up your data on the affected system:
- Connect to different wireless networks to confirm if issue follows the system.
- Clean install wireless adapter drivers.
- Update and reset BIOS.
- Reinstall the operating system.
Please let us know if there's anything else we can do for you.
