I'm not sure about the "Degraded" and "data verification" messages, but to provide for data integrity, at boot, the system always runs a File System Check (fsck) to check for disk errors. If errors are found, it will run another fsck session to repair the problems found in the file system. If this fails, the issue is pretty serious.
It sounds like your system was able to repair the potential disk errors.
You could check the system using the diagnostic file capability and see what is reported:
Look at the Disks and RAID sections.
Well I retrieved all the system dump information and the log data for the disks and the RAID all looked fine. Everything said "clean" and I didn't see anything indicating errors. Maybe the unit just did not shut down properly which caused the array to check itself...
