    upgrading to i7 processor

I have a HP model number A6120N, Intel Core 2CPU 4400, with 4 gigs memory, 32 bit operating system.  I was told by HP that I could upgrade to the new i7 processor, and wanted to find out, what the right i7 processor model number is, to put in my computer.  Looks like there are different types of i7 processors.

      Thanks for the help

As far as i am aware the core 2  sockets and i7 sockets are different so you wouldn't be able to just  swap the CPU.

But if HP say so and it is their system maybe you  can, but you are best discussing the options with them. Still personally  i doubt you can, you would need a new motherboard
