  1. Where I can find list of Xeon Scalable CPU that support Optane SSD memory? I find several document like this https://www.intel.com/content/dam/www/public/us/en/documents/brief/xeon-scalable-processor-improves-hpc-performance-brief.pdf https://www.intel.com/content/dam/www/public/us/en/documents/brief/xeon-scalable-processor-improves-hpc-performance-brief.pdf its write that support, and on other side on Intel ark for all Xeon Scalable family state that not support Intel Optane memory. I need clarification about Optane memory and Optane SSD? Is supported Intel Optane SSD working in memory pool or not? On Intel web portal is only example of desktop processor and system, nothing regarding server product, only thing I find is Win Server 2016 driver https://downloadcenter.intel.com/product/97160/Intel-Optane-SSD-DC-P4800X-Series https://downloadcenter.intel.com/product/97160/Intel-Optane-SSD-DC-P4800X-Series
  2. Memory pool with Intel Optane P4800X, is it possible to create Intel Optane P4800X with part of capacity in memory pool and rest use as data cache. For example for attached configuration, use 250GB in memory pool with 16GB RDIMM and rest of 125GB to be used as data cache for NVMe disk in raid?? Or only is possible to add in memory pool complete capacity of 375GB, and is not possible to partially be added?
  3. Where can find driver for add Intel Optane P4800X in memory pool, and how we can configure?
  4. When is used in memory pool Intel Optane P4800X can store data after power loss? If yes for how long?
  5. Is it possible to mirror Intel Optane P4800X SSD drive whit self to split logically and have raid on one drive (one Intel Optane P4800X in system)??

Which OS is supported whit Intel Optane P4800X? As I see only Windows Server 2016 driver exist

Hello butera,

Thanks for contacting the Intel® Memory Drive™ Technology SW for Intel® Optane™ SSDs support; in regards to your questions here's the requested information.

About the supported processors to be used with Intel® MDT SW; it actually requires an Intel® Xeon® processor E5-x6xx v2 or later, Intel® Xeon® processor E7-x8xx v2 or later; you can find additional information on this processors series here:

https://ark.intel.com/products/series/78584/Intel-Xeon-Processor-E7-v2-Family https://ark.intel.com/products/series/78584/Intel-Xeon-Processor-E7-v2-Family

https://ark.intel.com/products/series/78582/Intel-Xeon-Processor-E5-v2-Family https://ark.intel.com/products/series/78582/Intel-Xeon-Processor-E5-v2-Family

About the support for Intel® Xeon® Scalable Platform with Intel® MDT SW please allow us to further research more in the matter to provide you a more complete answer; however, the Intel® Xeon® Scalable Platform currently supports the Intel® Optane™ SSDs as stated on the documentation.

In regards to the questions about the way that if it's possible to use your Intel® Optane™ in a dual way; the drive is either used as an SSD or as memory, but not both at the same time; so the drive will be available only as Memory while using it with the Intel® MDT SW.

You can download the Intel® Memory Drive™ Technology SW from the following website:

https://www.memorydrv.com/downloads/latest https://www.memorydrv.com/downloads/latest

Once you've downloaded the file to your equipment you'll need to follow the instructions on our Intel® MDT Set Up and Configuration Guide to properly install and configure it; you'll find the Installation and Configuration guidelines on the Section 2 of the following document:

https://www.intel.com/content/dam/support/us/en/documents/memory-and-storage/intel-mdt-setup-guide.pdf https://www.intel.com/content/dam/support/us/en/documents/memory-and-storage/intel-mdt-setup-guide.pdf

Currently the Intel® MDT SW similar to memory, power-off data retention is not expected when SSD is used as a memory drive.

In regards to the support of Intel® Optane™ SSDs on different Operating systems, the drivers package for Datacenter NVMe* Windows* supports this Windows Versions:

Windows Server 2016*

Windows® 10*

Windows 8.1*

Windows 8*

Windows 7*

Windows Server 2012 R2*

Windows Server 2012*

Windows Server 2008 R2*

Additionally, the Intel® Optane™ SSDs could be used with the Intel® MDT SW in the following Linux* Distributions:

RHEL* 6.5, 6.6, 6.7, 6.8 ,7.0, 7.1, 7.2, 7.3

SLES* 11 SP4, 12, 12 SP1, 12 SP2

Currently the Intel® MDT SW supports only this Linux* Distributions and the Linux* OS must be installed in Legacy Mode (Not UEFI)

And in regards to the possibility of creating a RAID-1 in one drive (Logically split Intel® Optane™ P4800X SSD) please allow me to further research on this question.

Please feel free to ask more questions and to add additional details to your case if you need, we'll be glad to assist you

Best regards,

Hello butera,

Thanks for your time and after further investigating, currently you'll require to use 2 SSDs to create a Mirror RAID/RAID-1 with the Intel® Optane™ P4800X SSD, since a logical split like the one you've mentioned isn't supported.

I've found that you have additional questions on other topics; one in regards to Intel® Virtual RAID on CPU (Intel® VROC) and the other about the Write Per Day capabilities of the Intel® Solid State Drives.

We'll continue researching to provide you the most accurate information and if you require more assistance in regards to your case or have additional questions in regards to our products please don't hesitate to contact us, we'll be glad to assist you.
