In response to your reply, I was able to find the correct driver and have reached a milestone - after making a clean install of Windows 7 Device Manager, I am about to perform a backup of my system partition to a USB hard drive and restore it.
After that I am going to add plug-ins and connect peripheral devices, including a Bluetooth headset and speaker.
