I have a very annoying problem with my system when I plug in a USB device to one of the front ports the computer it instantly shuts down. I can hear a slight pop so I assume it is static related. It seems to happen much more often with USB drives that are metallic cases. After I power up it back up if I insert the same drive it will not happen again until maybe the next day. Any ideas?
I have the following components
Antec P-183 Case
Intel Core i7 860
Corsair 8GB Kit CMD8GX3M4A1600C8
2X XFX PVT98GYDLH Video Cards
Intel X25-M 80GB SSD
Windows 7 x64 Pro
APC SUA1500 UPS
Usually these type of problem occurs when there is grounding between the desktop board and case. To avoid this problem, Please, take the board out of the case follow the guidelines in the following link:
Once you have the system outside of the case, test it with the minimal configuration. Also make sure that the front USB ports are properly connected for more information check here:
You can also test a different front panel on the desktop board.
