SGI Submits World Record SPEC Benchmarks with Altix UV

Now it’s proven—SGI Altix® UV is the industry’s fastest, most scalable shared memory system.  In addition to introducing a new quad-socket Altix UV 10 server, we just submitted world record setting SPEC benchmark results on our flagship Altix UV 1000 supercomputer with 64 sockets of Intel® Xeon® X5570 processors (512 cores!). Even though this is only one quarter of the 256 sockets (2,048 cores) supported in a single system image, Altix UV blazed past the SGI Altix 4700 Itanium-based platform previously in the lead.

SGI submitted two key benchmark results for publication:

      ·        SPECint_rate_base2006 — Measuring integer performance, Altix UV 1000 scored 10,400, surpassing the previously leading 9,030 result of the SGI Altix 4700.

      ·        SPECfp_rate_base2006 — Measuring floating point performance, Altix UV 1000 scored 6,840, the top-ranked x86 archictecture result and the second highest overall result after the top-ranked SGI Altix 4700 which scored 10,600 with eight times as many processors.

Just imagine what we’ll be able to show with 256 sockets in the future!
