    S3420gp and RAM

    zibibbalibbo

Hi everyone, i've searched for previous discussion, but every was locked. So i opened a new one for this question.

I have the over-mentioned board, s3420GP and some rams:

-4 sticks of KVR1066D3D4R7S/4G (mentioned on the supported hardware list)

      -4 sticks of KVR1333D3D8R9SK3/12G

Fast conclusion: in every combination, the result is always the same. 3 long beeps and blinking amber led at the end. On the manual it says memory error. Kind of frustrating i can't find a solution. Maybe someone have some suggestions? Are those the correct rams for my motherboard?

Any help will be appreciated, A LOT!

      Regards,

      Andrea

          Hello Andrea,

Thank you for contacting Intel Customer Support.

Please let us know more about your system configuration for example processor model, HDD model,  etc...

What troubleshooting steps have you performed to attempt to fix the issue? Have you tested the RAM on another known working Serverboard to determine the memory is fine?

There is information about RAM Memory Subsystem at  Intel® Server Board s3420GP TPS on page 18.

Additionally, on page 81  of the abovementioned document, Amber light at ~1 Hz blink is a non critical, non fatal alarm - System is likely to fail:

          CATERR asserted.
          Critical Temperature threshold asserted.
          VRD hot asserted.
          SMI Timeout asserted.

Please check one with only one RAM stick at a time.

Try only the RAM from the compatibility list to see if it boots.

Intel always recommends using validated hardware to avoid unforeseen issues.

If you have any more questions, please let me know.

          Best regards,
          Caesar B_Intel.

            Hello Andrea,

Thank you for contacting Intel Customer Support.

Please refer to https://www.intel.com/content/dam/support/us/en/documents/server-products/serverboardsr1630gp.pdf for a full list of compatible and tested hardware for Intel® Server Board S3420gp.

I would suggest testing other RAM modules or testing these Sticks in another known working server to confirm RAM is fine.

If you have any more questions, please let me know.

            Best regards,
            Caesar B_Intel.

                  Hardware list.

                  Tested without a case.

Intel S3420GP Server Board Intel E51976-402

                  M393B5170DZ1-CH9    4 GB  Registered   K4B1G0446D-HCH9

                  1.

Is this model different from the s3420gp server mainboard?

When I install the dimm memory, I can enter the BIOS settings.

                  Displayed with S3420GPC.

                  Displayed with S3420GPC.

                  2.

s3420gp It is memory purchased together in the list of supported hardware, but if it is installed in the slot, it can not enter the BIOS screen with a memory error beep.

Sorry for the late reply, i've tested again every stick on the first slot. Same result, blinking amber led and 3 beeps on post.

I've read on the internet something like "reset your bios till it works" Is it possible that a bios reset can solve the problem?

Another question: the sysadmin of my agency told me "Your ram is 2rx4 but the board takes only 2rx8". assuming that i don't know the difference between those 2 types, can you confirm me that thing? I've added the photo of the two types of ram i own.

                    Thanks,

                    Andrea

We are having a significant issue as well. We've gone through multiple DIMMs (all from the compatibility list) all have produced the same results - 3 beeps (most recently we tried: KVR1333D3D4R9S/4GI). Each time, we've tried removing all the sticks and just using the new one in the A1 slot, and still 3 beeps.

Is there some trick we don't know about? Do we need to reset/adjust something?

Please help - we've really hit the wall with frustration and research on this one.

                          Much appreciated!
