Intel® Wireless-AC 9560 Compatibility - Alienware 17R4

Is Intel® Wireless-AC 9560 compatible with Alienware 17R4? I have seen in other forums which claim 8265 and 8260 to be compatible. But in the product specs page for 9560 and 8265 I see some differences in connector interface. For Intel 9560: Connector interface: CNVio, for Intel 8265: Connector interface: M.2: PCIe, USB, or UART (M.2 1216 only).

Hello HarinathSrinivas,

The Intel® Wireless-AC 9560 will not work with your computer. These adapter requires an 8th Gen Intel® Core™ Processor (or one based on Gemini Lake), as well as an available M.2 connector routed for CNVi (Hybrid Key E).

The following article may be helpful: https://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/support/articles/000026155/network-and-i-o/wireless-networking.html What Are the Integrated Intel® Wireless-AC (CNVi) and Companion RF (CRF) Modules?

When looking to upgrade the wireless adapter on your system it's always important to work with your computer manufacturer, and if possible purchase the upgrade part from them directly. Some OEMs limit which adapters may be installed on their computers through a hardware white-list, resulting in some "compatible" adapters not working. Keep in mind that we don't provide support for custom wireless integrations, so any issues would fall out of support.

As an alternative, you could check with your computer manufacturer if the https://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/wireless-products/dual-band-wireless-ac-9260-brief.html Intel® Wireless-AC 9260 can be installed on your system. This model uses the standard M.2 Key E connector for wireless and does not use CNVi.

We hope this information helps.

Best regards,
