USB Ethernet Interface Periodically Disconnects

Is there a configuration for the Euclid that will stop it from periodically disabling and then re-enabling a USB Ethernet interface? I want more bandwidth for pulling depth data than I can get over Wifi. However, my connection over the Ethernet USB is unreliable, disconnecting and then reconnecting every few minutes. I am not using the Wifi or hotspot connection at all.

Any advice on any configuration changes to make it stop?

Cheers,

Jim

I found a discussion (unrelated to Euclid) where someone else's ethernet was disconnecting every few minutes. It's a long discussion. Ultimately, what got it working in that particular case was simply using a different adapter.

Also, Euclid user McCool said in another post that using a USB 3.0 gigabit ethernet adapter worked for them, with a software configuration similar to that of ethernet-over-USB.

I think your theory about the USB Ethernet adapter periodically failing is the right one. The same problem happened with two different instances of this brand, CableMatters USB 3.0 to RJ45 Adapter, Model No. 202013. I'm running the stock Euclid Ubuntu 16.04 release that the device shipped with.

Failures happen every 10 to 40 minutes when the device is idle, and within seconds when pushing 75 Mbytes/second through it. Below is a snippet from /var/log/syslog an idle failure through recovery. My initial concern was whether the Euclid modifications to network-manager for Hotspot handling were periodically bringing other network interfaces down, but this failure seems to pop out of nowhere with multiple services simultaneously reacting to a USB disconnect. I'm trying different network dongles now.

Thanks for your help.

Cheers,

Jim
