Jinto: Thank you very much for contacting the Intel® Rapid Storage Technology communities. We will do our best in order to try to provide the information you are looking for.
In regard to your inquiry, yes, you will be able to set up a RAID configuration using NVMe’s, but remember that you need at least two of them in order to build it. Now, the motherboard also needs to support the RAID, because before you create it, we will need to get into the BIOS and change the SATA mode to RAID for the system to work properly.
How many NVMe’s are you using?
Which type of RAID are you planning to build?
We also wanted to verify some details about your system, please provide the SSU report for us to be able to do that, the application will allow you to save the report as a file, to attach a file, you must click "Use Advanced Editor" in the top right corner of the response box, then the "attach" option will appear in the bottom right corner of the response box:
Any further questions, please let me know.
Thanks for the prompt reply. I was using 2 NVMe drives and the BIOS the settings were changed to RAID. But the drives are not getting detected under the iRST RAID configuration window in BIOS. But the drives are showing up in Storage configuration and NVMe configuration in BIOS/Advance configuration menu. Inorder to get detected in RAID configuration window, does the drive need to advertise in identify controller/ identify namespace as the drive is RAID capable? Or is there any other settings in the drive preventing it from detected by the BIOS.
Jinto: You are welcome. For this type of scenario, we recommend to install the latest BIOS version for the board.
In regard to your inquiry, I looked on ASUS’s web site for a guide or steps to build the RAID. I found some information that might not be related to your specific device, but the BIOS interface of your board might be similar as the one showing on the link below:
Any questions, please let me know.
Thanks for the support. Jus wondering if the Intel chipset Z170 support 4k supporting NVMe drives for the RAID configuration? or it supports only those NVMe drives that support 512b?
