Hi GrahamL: I included a reply to you on a separate Communities thread but thought I'd reply to you also here. Our DSA team released an updated version of IDSA earlier this week on Tuesday December 5th. The newest version is 126.96.36.199. This new version had some UI enhancements and bug fixes but the issue specific to the tray icon is being fixed by our development team. Our next IDSA release scheduled for Dec 19 2017 and plans include a fix for the tray icon not starting correctly.
You might see if the new version works for you by uninstalling the DSA version you have via Control Panel, deleting any log files found in the C:\ProgramData\Intel\DSA folder, then doing a fresh install from either the main Intel DSA install page https://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/support/detect.html or from the actual Download Center location https://downloadcenter.intel.com/download/24345/Intel-Driver-Support-Assistant, and try running the DSA scan. If it continues to not run as intended, please send your log files and a screen shot of the error.
