Need driver for Intel RAID version for Windows 7

Gentlemen/ Ladies,

Would you please provide the driver(s) for INTEL RAID version 8 to me, it will be needed for Windows 7 ( appreciate if you can provide both 32 bits and 64 bits driver version).

Originally, my laptop 's OS was Vista Ultimate 32 bits, which does not requires additional driver as it is legacy based, which I was told.

However, due to a sudden situation I am now trying to put a either 32 or 64 bits version of Windows 7, which i was told, needs a driver.

The Intel RAID came with Sony laptop, version 8,

I will need to set up the intel RAID before a clean installation of Windows 7 from ISO file, thus, any suggestions, will be truly appreciated.

Thank you in advance,

Hi msibanker: Thank you for providing that information. In this case, since the chipset on the computer is the Intel® PM965, we can try to install the Intel® RST version 11.7:

Hello Alberto,

I am speechless for yr speedy response and yr help, I can't say thank you enough.

Let me try, and give me a few days, as I am also confronting the hard drives issues, my bet is if i can't fix the Windows's booting, i may need to buy a new pair of SSD to replace, and then Windows's installation and then drivers installation.

I will get back to you ASAP, thanks again !

I truly appreciated.

Hello Alberto,

I ran into some issues that I have concerns and need confirmation, please....

First see this youtube: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KSOG2XlDono Intel raid set up problems - YouTube

FYI, I purchased 2 brand new SSD to replace the original hard drives.

I tried to set up the RAID 0, but I am not sure if it is done correctly?

1. First time I pressed Ctrl + I to access the menu, but later it's CTRL + M + I, ....is this normal or did I mess up ??

2. top menu it should be # 1 option-create..., but instead of # 1, it says something like # qn, i selected anyway. Is this normal??

3. I could not get down to lower section where I should press "space bar" to select the 2 SSD drives, but it still says "member drives",....is this ok?

4. Also, please notice, there are a lots of " " " " " " all over the places.....

5. Do i need to do a" F6 function key " method (for window 7 or up instead of vista) to put the driver ? If so, how to do the F6 method using a USB- flash drive? ...especially i would need to use ISO version to install the windows 7....

I guess I will need to try to use Rufus...for windows installation. Thanks

Hi msibanker: Sure, we are here to help, in regard to your inquires:

1. First time I pressed Ctrl + I to access the menu, but later it's CTRL + M + I, ....is this normal or did I mess up ??

There is a chance that Sony may have changed the combination of keys to access RAID BIOS, since they are the manufacturer of the laptop they have the option to do that.

2. Top menu it should be # 1 option-create..., but instead of # 1, it says something like # qn, i selected anyway. Is this normal??

Yes, that is normal, it is fine to select option number one.

3. I could not get down to lower section where I should press "space bar" to select the 2 SSD drives, but it still says "member drives",....is this ok?

Yes, it is fine, both drives were selected

4. Also, please notice, there are a lots of " " " " " " all over the places.....

For this matter the best thing to do will be to get in contact with Sony directly get further assistance:

https://esupport.sony.com/US/p/select-system.pl?DIRECTOR=CONTACT https://esupport.sony.com/US/p/select-system.pl?DIRECTOR=CONTACT

5. Do i need to do a" F6 function key " method (for window 7 or up instead of vista) to put the driver ? If so, how to do the F6 method using a USB- flash drive? ...especially i would need to use ISO version to install the windows 7....

There is no need to load the F6 drivers unless the Windows installation does not see them, based on the video the RAID 0 volume was created correctly.

Any questions, please let me know.

Hello Alberto,

For question# 5- the video that was attached, the laptop was vista ultimate 32 bits (original OS), that's legacy based. But i am about to install another OS,-windows 7 professional ISO, which will be 64 bits based, This is the reason why I asked for the drivers at the begining, and F6 instruction. Please re-confirm.

Also, do i first download the driver and put in flash usb, same time when i put the ISO flash drive-windows 7 and boot them up altogether and press F6 at the same time??

Million thanks

Hi msibanker: You are very welcome. When using Windows® 7, the drivers should be included on the operating system itself, so there is no need to install the F6 drivers.

In the case you need to do that, yes, you can save the drivers on the same USB drive that has the ISO file for Windows, there is no need to press F6, you can install them by choosing the option "Load Driver", please see the picture below:

Any questions, please let me know.

Hello Alberto,

Thanks for following-up, I just received the 2 Samsung SSD, so please give me 2-3 days for finishing it up.

BTW, a friend of mine suggested I should be installing Windows 10 instead. Just curious:

1. Does Windows 10 Pro also pre-loaded with Intel RAID driver?

2. What's yr personal opinion about Windows 10 especially the drivers issue/ problems?

Or should I just stick with Windows 7 Pro and just complete it as a safer bet?

Million thanks

Hi msibanker: You are welcome. Sure, no problem, take your time and when you get the chance please let us know the results.

In regard to your questions, yes, Windows® 10 also has a pre-loaded Intel RAID driver, the thing is that according to Sony's web site the laptop was only validated to work with Windows® Vista:

https://esupport.sony.com/US/p/model-home.pl?mdl=VGNAR770 https://esupport.sony.com/US/p/model-home.pl?mdl=VGNAR770

If you installed Windows® 10 the laptop might not work properly and there will be no drivers available in our web site for that platform, besides that the version of Intel® RST that supports Windows® 10 does not support the chipset that the laptop has, which is Intel® PM965 express chipset:

https://docs.sony.com/release/specs/VGNAR770CTO_mksp.pdf https://docs.sony.com/release/specs/VGNAR770CTO_mksp.pdf

Any questions, please let me know.

Hello Alberto,

OK, so for sure i won't jump to windows10, glad I asked you.

And just to reconfirm, as I am a little confused now, so when i install the Windows 7 Pro 64 bits onto my sony ( which was originally 32 bits with Vista Ultimate as OS):

-it will be ok, correct?

- & i don't need to do a manually install (press F6 key) RAID driver because windows 7 Pro has the built-in preloaded driver, correct? And that preloaded-driver is good for my chipset, right?

Or do I need to install 32 bits WIndows Pro/ 32 bits Vista Ultimate??

Million thanks

Hello Alberto,

Looks like "Mission Accomplished", seems it runs flawlessly,....I am truly grateful for yr help and yr first class knowledge,...it makes a tough job easy !

I guess, now I would need to update the Intel Chipset driver from 32 bits or Windows 7 Pro genetic driver to Intel 64 bits driver, correct? I will go to another section of this website to look it up or confirm, thank you once again.

Best regards,

Dickson
