Intel Joule WIFI AP + hostapd issues

    hgs

      Hi all,

I am trying to bringup wifi AP 802.11n using hostapd on Intel Joule 570x module with OS 1706 release. Need few clarifications

      1) Want to know if the hostapd.conf present in the release(OS 1706) has optimal settings?

      2) hostapd binary which came with the release(OS 1706) was not built with  CONFIG_ACS=y (auto channel selection).

I had to rebuild hostapd, but not sure about the .config option which I need to set apart from enabling CONFIG_ACS=y.

Additional information on steps to build the hostapd for intel joule platform will be really helpful.

      3) we are trying to push this update to final product and would like to know about any stability issues other concerns related with

      hostapd+802.11n AP setup.

      Thanks,

      Hari

            Hello Hari,

            Thank you for your patience.

Hostapd.conf has a variety of configurations that can be enabled to obtain desired settings for your preference. Using generic instructions to setup an access point on Linux for the Intel Joule should work. To connect to a Wi-Fi AP with the Intel Joule, or configure it manually, you can use the following guide: https://software.intel.com/en-us/node/721518

            Hope this helps.

              Hi,

              Thanks for you reply.

              Some background:

I use intel Joule 570x module with OS 1706 release. The intel joule is powered by baseboard powered battery which was charged continuously using 12 VDC external power supply as per spec.

I used hostapd to bringup WIFI AP on intel joule. Modified hostapd.conf (Attached hostapd.conf & hostapd.services) to enable 802.11n.

I saw a warning/crash after continuously running the system for 4 hours.  Copy pasted the report captured from the console.

I also saw messages "Package temperature above threshold, cpu clock throttled"

Even though the system continued to work with out issues, i dont have clue about the the severity of this warning? Can you please explain the situation?

                  Hello Hari,

                  Thank you for your patience.
Are you using a cooling fan with your Intel Joule?
If not, please follow this guide to set up the stock cooling fan that comes in the Joule package: https://software.intel.com/en-us/node/733192

                  Hope this helps.
