Thank you for joining the Intel® Community.
Regarding your inquiry, try the following link: Downloads for Intel® Chipset Software Installation Utility. I would also recommend to test the Chipset driver provided by your laptop manufacturer since it's likely a customized driver for a particular computer model.
Hi intel_corp @Amy
It's the Controller for the GPU slot on the Crystal Well that gets downloaded during Windows updates that causes some issues intermittently - as I was saying in another thread, the driver is only found in the server package 10.1.2.xx
Because it's disabled by default as the notebook is using PCIe 16x PEG0, nVidia GTX980 - I think Windows may regard the 16x Controller (Device ID: 0D01) requiring a driver and downloads what it has in the Microsoft Update Catalog.
The driver is not present in 10.1.1.44, but the update catalog had the driver as part of 10.1.1.36
Windows will regard 10.1.1.44 as an update for the rest of the HM87/Lynx Point using 10.1.1.36, but either doesn't set the 0D00, 0D01, to use Null drivers. The Intel white paper also mentioned that the SM Bus driver is sometimes overwritten during updates, and this is what I have also noticed happen during that update installation. This one is the real problem. Usb drives and other issues start occuring when this happens
Microsoft Update Catalog listing the SM Bus as 10.1.1.38
I posted on the Hardware forums at MSDN to ask Ms to create a new description ENUM to indicate "Driver not required in accordance with OEM specification" rather than reporting "No driver is installed for this device" as it is unclear if it was due to failed installation or design specification
Thank you for sharing this information.
From my end, the link above is the generic driver we provide for third-party devices. Since the issue seems to be related to those drivers provided by Microsoft, you are doing the right thing to report this with them. I hope they can provide more insights regarding this matter.
I just received a reply in another thread that this was probably the update catalog messing with things, which was my hunch
