doclucas: Thank you very much for joining the Intel® NUC communities. We are sorry to hear the process to downgrade the BIOS is not working.
I checked the released notes and there is no information stating that the downgrade is not possible:
Even though you mentioned you already tried the BIOS recovery, just to make sure, did you follow the steps showing on the link below? There are 2 methods to do the recovery:
Here is the link for the 0049 version:
Any further questions, please let me know.
doclucas: Thank you very much for providing that information. Yes, I tried this process already, with a different model of NUC but same family, it was the Intel® NUC7i3BNH. When using the F7 method I got the same error message you mentioned previously, but when I did the BIOS recovery by removing the jumper, it worked and I was able to downgrade the BIOS to 0049. That is why I just wanted to make sure you were following the right steps.
At this point, I will do further research on this matter and I will try to replicate the issue using the same exact model you have, as soon as I get any updates I will post all the details on this thread..
Any questions, please let me know.
Alberto, while the NUC7i3BNH is a product from the same family, it is quite different.
I own 2 NUC7i5BNH and know 3 friends who own the same model, 1 of them here in Thailand and 2 in another country. None of us is able to downgrade.
I also asked around in the forums, nobody is able to downgrade.
If you are able to downgrade NUC7i5BNH from BIOS .050 or 0.51 to any lower version, using any of the suggested recovery methods, I'd be extremely surprised.
Kindly post a video showing how you successfully did that.
Otherwise, kindly provide the steps to downgrade. Maybe a new BIOS your engineers should "bake" to fix the downgrading limitation/problem should be provided? Or any other way?
doclucas: Thank you very much for letting us know those details. Sure, I will try to replicate the issue and as you mentioned, I will post a video or at least the steps that I did in order to do the downgrade. As soon as I get any updates I will post all the details on this thread.
Any questions, please let me know.
Alberto, I believe trying to replicate the issue should not take over 5 minutes. Simply removing the jumper and you will get the same results as mine.
Why does it take so long to get any kind of proper support on these forums? Please don't tell me you don't have access to this model or that you have been on vacation.
Can you confirm you could reproduce this problem so that we can move forward with support case numbers and resolve this!?
doclucas, all the NUCs in the NUC7 family use the same BIOS, so there shouldn't be any difference.
About your issue.
1. You will only be able to downgrade to BIOS 0049 due to an ME change. I added that information to the download record.
2. I had the same problem as you, there is a workaround. Please see the note I added to the very end of this article: BIOS Recovery Update Instructions for Intel® NUC
1. Your release notes show the ME version is exactly the same even on .0047:
ME version is 126.96.36.19964 since BIOS .0047.
Regardless I am unable to downgrade to .0049 even
2. Which workaround do you refer to? The full format? I am not even getting output on TV/monitor with the jumper removed. Did you try to downgrade to .0049 from .0050 using the jumper method? If so, can you share that video please?
I did give it a shot before cvare
I tried with full format of FAT and FAT32, neither worked (2 different USB2 DOKs)
You say it works for you tho, would love to see that video showing the process from start to end...
Nice year, Leon.
I also don't think it is related to the formatting, but not because of the reason you mentioned, as I was able to downgrade from .0051 to .0050 via the normal firmware update option in the BIOS, not via recovery.
My reason is because I tried that formatting before the post and got the same results.
Also nobody is able to get it to work and I still haven't seen any video that proves it does work this way and the exact steps to make it work, so still waiting to see that video cvare

I'm very curious on this topic. I'll downflash my 052 to 049 and report back shortly.
Well I'm pretty good with these NUCs and I must report it is impossible to flash down to 049 from 052. I tried jumper recovery method, power button down flash, even a normal F7 flash.
Not a chance. They all give me a black screen and or message about invalid flash file detected. So yes, it appears it's impossible.
I'd like for anyone to prove me wrong. Good luck guys!
