The channels that can be used by the Intel® Wireless Adapters are defined by international standards and country rules. As you know, some of these wireless frequencies are still regulated in most countries around the world. For this reason, the available channels in your PC depend on the regulations of the country it was meant to be used and the configuration from the Computer Manufacturer. Intel does not have a way to override the OEM configuration.
We can advise you to check with your Computer Manufacturer Support, they will let you know which channels can be used by your PC, and if they have a way to change this.
As per Intel® DRS, our generic Intel® PROSet/Wireless Software and Wi-Fi Drivers, which are provided for worldwide use, will not reflect this change.
thank you for the clarifications.
Unfortunately, this does not get me any closer to understanding how the DRS works\should work and how it should be updated with new regulations..
As an example:
I have a latop with the following card:
Intel® Dual Band Wireless-AC 8265
The channels advertised by the manufacturer are:
IEEE802.11a / IEEE802.11n / IEEE802.11ac :
36 / 40 / 44 / 48 / : W52
52 / 56 / 60 / 64 / : W53
100 / 104 / 108 / 112 / 116 / 120 / 124 / 128 / 132 / 136 / 140 / :W56
144/ => for EU
149 / 153 / 157 / 161 / 165 => for EU
5 GHz Band : 5180MHz-5320MHz, 5500MHz-5825MHz(EU)
To current Russian frequecy is more narrow then the EU one and has less available channels (5650 vs 5500MHz)
Having in mind the old regulation (5150 - 5350 & 5650 - 5725) - how will the expansion work from DRS side?
Only on newly released modules?
Is DRS dynamic (updated over time) or it will have the same regulation information as it had when it was released?
Information from Intel® Dual Band Wireless-AC 8265 datasheet (https://www.intel.com/content/dam/www/public/us/en/documents/product-briefs/dual-band-wireless-ac-8265-brief.pdf )
Can anyone please explain this part: "Future regulatory changes are easily managed during the product lifecycle."
How exactly are they managed?
Is there a change-log or an advertisment on what changes are to be made and when?
Thank you for your patience.
According to our engineers this frequencies are already supported with passive scan, please make sure that you're using the latest PROSet/Wireless Software and Drivers for your adapters:

- You're correct. When a local DRS policy is updated, this change is implemented on supported adapters via an Intel® PROSet/Wireless Software and Drivers update.
- Not at this time. Currently, our wireless driver release notes only provide information on the key issues fixed, not a complete changelog.
