There are currently EIGHT generations of the i7. Which specific processor do you have? And, what generation would you like to compare it to?

Hello yussafm,

I understand you would like to know if an Intel® 8th generation processor will perform better than your i7-4700MQ processor.

The performance of the computer will not only depend on the processor. There are other components in the computer than can reduce the performance of the system. Depending on how the computer manufacturer built the system then the performance it will have. Components like memory and hard drive will also affect the performance of the system.

An Intel® 8th generation processor should perform faster than an Intel® 4th generation processor using less power, but it is not possible for us to let you know exactly how fast the system will be. If you want to take a look at the features the Intel® 8th generation processors have you can compare them on this link http://ark.intel.com/ http://ark.intel.com/

Let me know if you have or not any other inquiry.

Regards,

I asked the question, and I was a bit vague to be honest.

I have laptop with : 4th gen i7-4700MQ processor

which is quad core with hyper threading.

newer gen i7 laptops only have 2 core hyper threading (probably with some better instructions per clock)

So it it a upgrade from my 4th gen with 8 threads to newer gen like 7th gen i7 with only 4 threads.

that is question could anyone answer better then original replies.

Hello yussafm,

Newer generation of processors come with better features. Some of the features are faster memory, bigger memory bandwidth; some of them come with faster processor speeds.

In the following link I compared the CPU you have with a 7th generation processor https://ark.intel.com/compare/75117,97185 https://ark.intel.com/compare/75117,97185

Depending on what you will be doing in the computer then you may or may not notice the difference. You may not notice the difference if you use the computer just for a regular home use. You will notice the difference if you use the computer for gaming or for any other heavy application that requires heavy CPU processing.

Let me know if you have or not any other inquiry.

Regards,
