Error saving image using the SDK samples.

    Alwarkartik

I recently obtained the R200 and downloaded and installed the offline SDK package (10.0.26.0396). I seem to be having the following issue whenever I try and save the image. This occurs on any of the samples when I run.

Could you clarify please when you say it happens on "any of the samples", if you mean you cannot save images in multiple sample programs, or if you mean that you are only using this Enhanced Photography Viewer program and cannot save the picture of anything that you try to photograph with it?

The Enhanced Photography mode was designed for use with tablets with an R200 camera built into them, so will likely not work if you are trying to use this mode with the USB version of the camera.

I'm trying to do it on any of the sample programs, such as depth one. Essentially any sample program where I can capture and save the image provides me with this result

Are you running the samples from the Sample Browser application in the 'RealSense SDK Gold' folder on your desktop?  Or are you running them from the c > Program Files (x86) > RSSDK folder?

If you run the samples from the RSSDK folder, they may not function correctly because Program Files (x86) is a "read only" folder that you cannot write data to.  This is why it is recommended that you either run the samples from the Sample Browser application or copy the samples out of the RSSDK folder onto another location on your computer outside of Program Files (x86).

I'm running it from the SDK sample browser.

I plugged my R200 in and used the same sample that you were   Here's the steps I took.

                  1.  Click "Preview" to get a live-updating view from the camera.

At the bottom of the sample's window there is a message that shows as BAD, FAIR or GOOD, changing as you move the camera around the the camera reads the depth of what it is seeing.  It will not allow you to save if the message is BAD.

                  2.  Click the 'Snapshot' option to save the image.  If the text said BAD at the time of taking the shot, the image will be marked with this and not be saveable.

                  3.  Click the 'Save' option to save the snapshot.

On all the R200 photo samples I used, it would say "Processing" as it began saving and then the sample would crash, so I can't confirm if it saved successfully (this may be because the EP - Enhanced Photography - samples were made for built-in tablet cameras).  If you haven't been checking the BAD / FAIR / GOOD message at the bottom of the window so far then I would try adjusting your camera to show FAIR or GOOD before saving the image and see if it then allows you to save.

I've checked the bad, fair and good part. This issue happens irrespective of the camera quality (Not including the bad one's because it won't let me save the bad one) . Also, I had a friend with an R200 and a laptop do the same thing and it works fine for him.

I wonder if it works on a laptop because it typically has a built in ordinary webcam in the top of its screen that faces towards the user.  This could act as the "front" camera whilst the USB R200 acts as the "rear" camera, successfully emulating the R200 Enhanced Photography-compatible tablets that had both a front and rear camera.

Then again, I am using the samples on a laptop with an active built-in webcam and the samples did not save for me either ...

You are unfortunately the first person I have come across who has experienced this particular error message, so there is no established precedent to look at to diagnose the issue.  You could wait for the Intel support team to return to the forum on Monday and see if they can consult a member of the RealSense development team if they do not know the solution either.

Given that the samples date back to RealSense's early days three years ago, it is regrettably possible that there will be nobody around now who knows the inner workings of these EP samples.  I'm sure a support team member would be happy to inquire to the development team on your behalf though.

Fair enough. In the mean time, I am meeting up with a friend for whom the saving feature worked and see if there is any issue in my SDK or camera by swapping my camera and laptop setup with his and see if that works. Thanks for you help man

If nothing else , I'm interested to hear what the Intel support team are going to say.

You're very welcome.  Please let us know the results of your tests with your friend.  Good luck!

I was wondering if you have any updates regarding the tests you intended to perform, and if you still require some sort of assistance.

I’ll be waiting for your response

                                Hi Andres V,

Yes I still require help. What I have done recently is take substitute my camera with that of a friends and run the SDK again. I am still not able to save an image. Also additionally, I only noticed this not because I did not need the rest, but none of the features in enhanced images seem to work. The measurement C++ option also does not seem to work half the time.

Following this I set up my camera and the sdk setup files in a different laptop and set up the whole thing again. It seems to work fine indicating that the problem might not be with my camera or the setup files. Currently I'm quite lot on what to do next.

Any help you can give me will be appreciated.

                                Kind regards,

                                  Thank you for the updates.

You mention that “the problem might not be related with my camera or the setup files”, have you considered that your system might not be fully compatible with the camera?

Could you please share your system specifications? In order to obtain the system info file, please follow this steps:
                                  •    Press WinLogo key + r
                                  •    Type msinfo32
                                  •    In the In the System Information console, click File > Export, and attach the .txt file to this RealSense Community post.

I’ll be waiting for your response.

                                    Hi Andres,

Yes, I've been checking out my laptop. In terms of the minimum hardware specs, I'm quite sure my laptop should be able to handle it. I'm got a 64-bit system with a Core(TM) i7-6500U processor, 8GB RAM and a 128 SSD where the application is installed. Also in addition I tried writing the code for camera in c++ to save a jpeg and it seems to work on another laptop but just not mine. So I'm pretty sure something here just isn't working out.

Anyway with regards to attaching the txt file, I can't see the option to attach that anywhere here. Where exactly do I attach the file.

Thanks for you help with this.

                                    Regards,

                                    Alwar
