Hosted Network Not Supported

I am using HP Probook 450 G4 Notebook PC , Windows 10 (64 Bit). And have the following Wi-Fi driver.

Manufacturer: Intel Corporation

Description: Intel(R) Dual Band Wireless-AC 3168

Driver version: 19.51.0.4

Physical address (MAC): ‎10-F0-05-6F-65-FD

But it doesn't support Hosted Network. That's why I can't create Wi-Fi hotspot from my laptop. What should I do now? How to fix this problem?

As we understand, you want to use the Mobile hostspot feature of Windows* with your PC and the Intel® Dual Band Wireless-AC 3168. Please consider the following items about this:

- Wireless Hosted Network/Soft AP is not required for the mobile hotspot feature to work. Actually, Windows® 10 introduces a new driver model called the WLAN Device Driver Interface (WDI) and the Soft AP is no longer supported in this new driver model. - Try using the latest driver provided by the https://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/support/topics/OEMs.html Computer Manufacturer Support, or the generic version of https://downloadcenter.intel.com/download/26782/Intel-PROSet-Wireless-Software-and-Drivers-for-Windows-10-?product=94854 Intel® PROSet/Wireless Software and Drivers for Windows® 10* [19.60.0].

- Make sure that the system has a working Internet connection. This is required before you can use the hotspot function.

I have the latest version the driver installed and a working ethernet connection. But still the mobile hotspot option isn't working . What should I now to fix this issue?

Hello Biku,

Please keep in mind that Mobile Hotspot is a Windows* feature, so you might want to check with Microsoft or with the https://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/support/topics/OEMs.html Computer Manufacturer support about this as well.

Additionally, here are a few things that you can check:

- Make sure your system has any applicable Windows* updates.

- Try the following steps to perform a clean driver installation:

1. You can use the driver from the https://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/support/topics/OEMs.html Computer Manufacturer Support as first option, if the issue persists please try the generic version of https://downloadcenter.intel.com/download/26924/Wireless-Intel-PROSet-Wireless-Software-and-Drivers-for-Windows-10-?product=94854 Intel® PROSet/Wireless Software and Drivers for Windows® 10 [19.70.0]

2. Go to Control Panel, Programs and Features and Uninstall "Intel® PROSet/Wireless Software", if it is installed. When prompted, choose the option to "Discard settings".

3. In Control Panel, Device Manager, Network Adapters, right click on the Intel® Dual Band Wireless-AC 3168 and Uninstall it. Make sure you mark the option to "Delete the driver software for this device".

4. Reboot the PC or scan for hardware changes, check device manager and if an older wireless driver is detected and installed, repeat the actions to uninstall and delete it as well. Repeat this process until the OS does not allow deleting the driver, or until the controller shows as Unknown Device.

5. Remove temporary files: Press the Windows Key + R to open the run box. Type Cleanmgr.exe. Press OK. Select the main drive, usually C:\. Check Temporary Files and uncheck everything else. Press OK.

6. Install the Intel Wireless driver. During the first steps of PROSet/Wireless installation, make sure to customize the installation and install all driver components.

Actually, later I found that when my PC is connected to a WI-Fi, mobile hotspot feature works smoothly. But when I connect to Ethernet (a Dial Up Broadband connection), it's not working. Can't understand what to do? Now I think it's a Windows operating system problem. By the way, thanks for your precious time.

Hello Biku,

Based on your description the Wireless Adapter is working correctly.

We did a quick research about the Mobile Hotspot message: "We can't setup mobile hotspot because your PC doesn't have an Ethernet, WiFi or cellular data connection."

It seems that by default, dial-up connections are not meant to be shared using Mobile Hotspot. Please keep in mind that Mobile Hotspot is a Windows* feature, therefore we strongly advise to check with Microsoft* Support, or in OS related websites for further details about this.
