Intel NUC7i5BNH does not recognize wireless controller Ubuntu 14.04

Hi,

I just bought a NUC7i5BNH. I installed Ubuntu 14.04. Everything good except that it does not recognize wireless.

Details:

1. On Ubuntu 14.04, after boot, the network applet shows: " No network devices available".

2. The NUC wireless module is (according to Intel Specs): DualBand Wireless AC-8265.

3. I went to Intel support page, downloaded the latest driver (iwlwifi-8265-22.ucode), placed in /lib/firmware, no luck.

4. it seems that the wired network is not recognized either. when I run "ifconfig" I get this:

lo Link encap:Local Loopback

inet addr:127.0.0.1 Mask:255.0.0.0

inet6 addr: ::1/128 Scope:Host

UP LOOPBACK RUNNING MTU:65536 Metric:1

RX packets:161 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 frame:0

TX packets:161 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 carrier:0

collisions:0 txqueuelen:1

RX bytes:11408 (11.4 KB) TX bytes:11408 (11.4 KB)

Please help! Any guidance will be very much appreciated.

Thanks,

Regards,

Mario Torrr

Hello mtorre,

As we understand, your system is not recognizing the Intel® Dual Band Wireless-AC 8265 in your NUC. Here are a few pointers that can help with this:

- The Intel® Wireless 8265 is supported since Linux Kernel version 4.6. Checking the information about Ubuntu 14.04 it uses an older kernel. You may try using a different OS, or a Linux distribution with a supported Kernel version.

- Check your BIOS and system configuration to make sure the Wireless and Wired network adapters are properly detected and enabled.

- Please keep in mind that Linux driver support is provided in the https://wireless.wiki.kernel.org/en/users/Drivers/iwlwifi Linux Community page. You can find more information about this topic in the following document: https://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/support/network-and-i-o/wireless-networking/000005511.html Linux* Support for Intel® Wireless Adapters.

- For additional assistance with your NUC, including the Ethernet adapter, we advise you to https://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/support/contact-support.html Contact Support, or through the /community/tech/nuc Intel® NUC Support Community.

Jonathan,

Thank you for your support. It was very useful.

I updated the kernel to 4.6.0, and I found that such kernel supported the version 21 of the wifi driver.

I found that version in a repository, I placed it into /lib/firmware. Now the wifi is working.

Regards,

Mario
