The short answer is Yes, it should be possible. The BIOS on the board needs to have support for remapping the drives for RAID, but almost all should have this capability. If the goal is to also utilize the new VROC (Virtual RAID on CPU) feature and you want to go beyond RAID0 (to RAID1, RAID5 or RAID10, for example), I have heard you need a "VROC Key" to enable it - at cost...
Thank you for your response.
Can you reference some documentation on the intel chipset that describes the process you say I should be able to do?
Sorry Harold, I cannot find this information. I have looked through the various specs available (see links below) as well as the manuals for a couple of x299 boards. What is disturbing is that the Redirection settings that I referred to seem to be specific to M.2 SSDs (at least within board manuals); I do not see anything similar for PCIe-based SSDs. Further, the VROC support is indicated to be specific to Intel SSDs and the way it is described in the board manuals would seem to indicate it is also specific to M.2. I am now as frustrated as you likely were when you tried to find this information yourself. We are going to need to have one of the Intel Customer Support engineers dig into this further...
