Shutdown bug with Intel Raid drivers

    Bubu00

      Hi,

      CPU: 3770k

      Chipset: Z77

      Storage: 1 ssd + 2 samsung hd103sj Raid 0

OS: Win 10 CU (the latest version)

I have this shutdown bug with the latest Intel Rapid Storage Technology drivers 14.8.14.1063: every time when i shutdown my computer the two hard disks in raid seem to wake up and spin up, then the pc completes the shutdown. In windows i have set the power option about the turn off hard disk timer to 0 (never turn off). I'm worried about this bug because i don't want to break the hard disks because of this spin up bug.

I read about this problem in another thread in this forum from 2013 (Hard Disk Shutdown bug which drivers 12.x.x.xxxx in Z77 ), but the problem still persist in 2017 latest drivers.

Also i had to disable the APM using the windows registry trick suggested in this forum because of another bug that makes the hard disks in raid 0 clicking sound: at least this is resolved.

      Thanks for any useful help.

      Bye

          Hello Bubu00,

Thank you for contacting Intel Communities.

I am sorry to hear you are having issues with the Intel® RST.

Seems to me that this may be caused due to a compatibility issue between the chipset that your board has (Intel® Z77 Express Chipset), which is a 7 series chipset and the Intel® RST version you have installed.

The Intel® RST version you have supports Intel (R) 8, 9 and 100 Series Chipsets and it also supports Windows® 10.

On the other hand, the Intel® RST version 13.6.0.1002 is the one that is supported by the chipset your board has but is only supported on Windows 7*, 8, and 8.1.

In this case, I would recommend contacting your motherboard's manufacturer to see if they have any customized Intel® RST version that supports Windows® 10 and the Intel® Z77 Express Chipset.

          I hope this helps.

          Best Regards,
          Juan V.

this is from your readme in the download section of 14.8.14.1063

Intel(R) Rapid Storage Technology Release is designed to provide

functionality for the following Storage Controllers:

                - Intel(R) 9 Series Chipset Family SATA AHCI/RAID Controller

                - Intel(R) 8 Series/C220 Series Chipset Family SATA AHCI/RAID Controller

                - Intel(R) 7 Series/C216 Series Chipset Family SATA AHCI/RAID Controller

                - Intel(R) C600 Series Chipset SATA AHCI Controller

anyway it's still unresolved from 2013 thread i linked, with people using different windows versions.

            thanks

              Hi Bubu00,

Please check the following .inf file:

Intel® Rapid Storage Technology (Intel® RST) Version: 14.8.14.1063 (Previously Released) Date: 4/16/2017 > download the f6flpy-x64.zip (3rd download) > open the "iaAHCIC.inf" file > scroll down until you find "Localizable Strings", you will find all the supported chipsets for the Intel® RST version you have.

              Best Regards,
              Juan V.

the driver is iaStorA.sys, not iaAHCIC. Control the web page of the rst drivers and update it with the right informations instead of forcing users to check inside a inf file in the driver package. Please stop continuing this line of incompatible drivers/windows 10 when that's crearly not the case.

did you checked this link: Hard Disk Shutdown bug which drivers 12.x.x.xxxx in Z77  ? The problem is the same and with different Windows versions.

I need a solution if you can resolve this bug. Are there any windows registry settings parameters i could use with iaStorA like the one that disable the APM in RAID mode:

                [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\services\iaStorA\Parameters\Device]

                "EnableAPM"=dword:00000000

                  Hello Bubu00,

Can you please provide the System Reports for Intel® Rapid Storage Technology.

Once I have this information I will forward this to the corresponding team and I will update this thread when I have updates.

thank you for your help; in these days i've tried some settings from the power plan in windows, using a "turn off hard disks after XX minutes": sometimes if the disks in the raid 0 array are turned off by windows using the policy, the shutdown process is normal, without spinning up the disks. If i could make a bet i would say there's something conflicting between windows and the intel driver about the power plan.

                    thanks

                        Hi Bubu00,

There is definitely some compatibility issues with the RST version that you are using, Intel® Rapid Storage Technology (Intel® RST) 14.8.14.1063 supports the following (extracted from the readme file):

                        * 1.  OVERVIEW

                        **************************************************************************

Intel(R) Rapid Storage Technology Release is designed to provide functionality for the following Storage Controllers:

                            - Intel(R) 9 Series Chipset Family SATA AHCI/RAID Controller

                            - Intel(R) 8 Series/C220 Series Chipset Family SATA AHCI/RAID Controller

                            - Intel(R) 7 Series/C216 Series Chipset Family SATA AHCI/RAID Controller

                            - Intel(R) C600 Series Chipset SATA AHCI Controller

Could you tell me if this issue appeared when you upgraded to Windows 10 and to newer RST version?

What’s was the previous Operating System installed?

Did you check with the board manufacturer?

                        Regards,

                          1. if you checked the thread i linked, this issue is present since 2013 and with different Windows versions, from 8 to the latest 10. The issue is present for me with also different RST drivers versions.

                          2. Win 10.

                          3. Yes, there aren't drivers from the manufacturer.
