    S2600CP very loud fan

    hilchenko_ea

I have Intel Server Board S2600CP in Intel Server Chassis P4000S with 5 fan coolers. Server two year worked correctly. But, one weak ago, 5 fan coolers started working too fast and too load. Installed one processor - Xeon E5-2603, and her temperature about 30 C.

I upgrade BIOS on last firmware: BIOS - 02.06.0005, ME - 02.01.07.328, BMC - 01.27.9958, FRUSDR - 1.11. During upgrade i set Chassis serial number, Chassis part number, System serial number and System part number correctly.

In BIOS settings set parameters: Set Throttling Mode - [Auto], Altitude -[300m or less], Set Fan Profile - [Acoustic]. For tests i set various parameters in BIOS, but 5 fan coolers worked very fast and very load all time.

Ask me please, how to diagnostic and correctly configure my server.

      Thanks.

          Hello Evgeny,
Regarding your question, “with your S2600CP with FANs running loud and fast“.
And that you have updated the BIOS to latest version.  Please try to reset the FANs and also swap fans around.  Also try loading BIOS default settings.  And please ensure the “Chassis Intrusion Header/switch” is properly connected on the system board, this can be found on the Technical Product Specification on page 96.  And please ensure the chasis cover is properly close and set.
If after all this the problem persists please send us the system logs:
follow the steps below to extract the system logs of the motherboard:

          1. Download the zip file named Sysinfo_V14_0_Build18_AllOS.zip available at the following web site: Sysinfo.
          2. Open the download destination folder for the Sysinfo_V14_0_Build18_AllOS.zip file and extract its contents. This operation will create a new folder named Sysinfo_V14_0_Build18_AllOS.
          3. Format a flash drive as FAT 32 (or any other Extended-firmware compatible file system).
          4. Copy the UEFI folder from the Sysinfo_V14_0_Build18_AllOS folder into the USB Flash drive.
          5. Turn off the server. Plug in the USB Flash drive in any of the server’s USB ports. Turn on the system and as soon as you get video signal hit F6 key several times. A window should come up and then select Launch EFI Shell and hit Enter.
          6. At the Internal EFI Shell command line type map –r and hit Enter.
The Device Mapping Table should show up a device named FS0; most likely it is your USB flash drive. At this point type FS0: and hit Enter. On the left side should see FS0> (a virtual unit has been created by the Internal EFI Shell).
          7. At command prompt FS0> type ls and hit Enter. This will show the contents of the USB Flash Drive. You should see the folder named UEFI.
          8. Type cd UEFI and hit Enter.
          9. At the command prompt type sysinfo.efi and hit Enter.
At this point you should hit Y and Enter to continue. This process might take up to 10 minutes.
          10. After running SysInfo you should see the command prompt back again.
          11. Type exit to reset the system. Unplug your USB Flash drive. Plug into another computer with an installed operating system (Windows*, Linux*, etc.) and Internet access.
          12. Browse your USB Flash drive. Go to UEFI folder. You should see three (3) .txt files (“sysinfo_log.txt”, “PCI_log.txt”, and “RAID_NVRAMlog.txt”).
          13. Please, reply to this email with these files.
If there is anything else we can help please feel free to ask.

          Best regards,

Henry A., I perform your recommendation, and get logs files. I have two question:

              1) how reset the FANs ?

              2) on which email send logs files (or attach to this post) ?

              Thanks.

                Hello Evgeny,

Fans will need to be reseated directly from the cable connected to the system board.  And the logs you can attach them to post.

                Best regards,

                          Hello Evgeny,

Thank you for the logs.  I‘ve checked the logs and it has error on Fans, but also checking a more deep into the case I remember you stated that the chasis is a P4000S for  this system board is recommended the P4000M.  Could you please verify the exact model on the chasis.  Also you could reset the Fans, you should be able to see the holding latch on the top of the fan.  If not please include a picture on the fans.  Also ensure the cover is close on the chasis prior on reseating the fans.

                          Best regards,
