My intel HD 4600 controler keeps crashing after update

Why does my Intel HD 4600 keep crashing after I updated it with update utility and everything else I could find. I am using windows 7 and the crashing started last week. Since I updated it doesn't crash as often but still crashes two or three times a day. I may need assistance with gathering the data needed to trouble shoot this issue.

More information needed.

What motherboard or system do you have? Provide the full model number.

What processor do you have?

Explain "and everything else I could find".

There are only two places to get the driver for your graphics - Intel, and the manufacturer of your system. You should try the latter first.

If your system is a laptop, does it have switchable graphics?

Al,

Hi, I have the Asus H97 plus with the i3-4370 3.8 GHz, 4mb cache LGA 1150. Running windows 7 Pro. I assembled the desktop in June 2015. Everything was working fine until last week.

The Asus H97 plus has integrated graphics. I download the Intel(R) driver update utility 2.8. from Intel's website. I should go to the Asus website and search for Integrated graphics support for H97 plus?

Thanks so much, Jay

The Intel Driver Update Utility is intended for Intel boards.

Yes, the manufacturer's driver may have been customized, where the Intel driver is a generic driver. So, I would use the Asus driver first.

But first, what happened last week? Was the driver working ok, then started having problems? What prompted your updating it?

If you have restore points on, I would rollback to a point before you started messing with the driver.

Hello Jayhubb,

I understand that graphics driver started crashing after you updated it.

Let me apologize for any inconvenience this issue may be causing to you.

I would like you to try reinstalling the graphics driver which is to make sure the issue is not a .dll file that may have gotten corrupted. Please download this driver https://downloadmirror.intel.com/26544/eng/win64_153633.4578.exe https://downloadmirror.intel.com/26544/eng/win64_153633.4578.exe

As soon as the graphics driver has been downloaded on the keyboard press WinLogo key + r, then type in devmgmt.msc, double click on Display Adapters -> Intel HD Graphics 4600 -> Driver tab -> Uninstall -> Select the check box Delete the driver software for this device -> OK, restart the computer, and then reinstall the driver I provided.

If issue persists please try the graphics driver ASUS* provides on this link http://dlcdnet.asus.com/pub/ASUS/misc/vga/Intel_VGA_Win7-8-1_V1018144206.zip http://dlcdnet.asus.com/pub/ASUS/misc/vga/Intel_VGA_Win7-8-1_V1018144206.zip

Let me know if issue persists or not.

Dear Fred,

Thank you for your help. My Fire Fox browser is still crashing black screen last night after downloading "everything". To report on your suggestions I tried to download the 15.40 window graphics driver from your link. The download was blocked because the message was; does not meet minimum requirements ….. and so on. So I searched for the download and downloaded it again. The download page said it was for windows 7, great. Downloaded it again and the same message. So what is blocking the download and install? Interesting this driver is for all windows from 7 on up.

I ask the question why did this start after using myself built computer for two years?

I looked in my Intel files and the down loads file. There are drivers that I have download in the last two days.

Asus does not have their own drivers right now.

I was in chat with Asus for a long time. They had Intel drivers and did not have an Asus graphics driver. What is an intergraded graphics mean then?

The down loads that you put in your post are the same. The driver in the links is 10.18.14.4206. When checking the properties of this driver it is working correctly but seems to default to Vista compatibility. So I change it back to windows 7. I also re-downloaded the Intel utilities updater because I got the message this morning on startup of my computer that it was no longer working. I did the scan. There were a few drivers to download so I downloaded them all! Unfortunately the chrome is crashing and recovering and running very slow.

To try and isolate the issue of crashing I am using the chrome browser for browsing instead of Firefox. By mid afternoon using Chrome is crashed but recovered. I don't know if this is a memory issue at this point but not a Fire Fox browser issue. I have 8 gigs of memory( Crucial Ballistix Sport 8GB ). I checked the memory and it is running at 90% usage on resource monitor. Could that be part of the problem?

I appreciate everyone in the community that can offer their help with the fix for this crashing issue.

Thanks, Jan

Hello Jayhubb,

I am sorry to hear you have not been able to install the graphics driver.

I would like you to try installing our graphics driver with the steps that are on this YouTube video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=S1KzoQDjMMY https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=S1KzoQDjMMY

I recommend running a memory test which is to check if the RAM memory is or not having problems. You can run the Windows* Memory Diagnostic Tool. This link will show you how to run it https://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ff700221.aspx https://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ff700221.aspx

You can also try running the Windows* System File Checker tool. This other link will show you how to run it https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help/929833/use-the-system-file-checker-tool-to-repair-missing-or-corrupted-system-files https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help/929833/use-the-system-file-checker-tool-to-repair-missing-or-corrupted-system-files

Fred,

Thanks for the links. My windows 7 is not crashing. The browser are crashing. I scanned my windows 7 and it was perfect. I just had a computer technician come over to check out my computer. The scanned with two different malware scans and there are no viruses! Yes. He recommended that I add more memory.I have unchecked a few things in the start up list and my memory is running around 66% right now instead of 90%. Adding 8 gb of memory and hope that this will solve the problem.

Thanks, Jan
