intel processor diagnostic tool cpu frequency test fails, and not sure what to do

I just built a new pc with a i7-6800k on a MSI x99a Gaming Pro Carbon with 16GB and a EVGA Geforce GTX 1070. I have been getting random blue screens on Windows 10. I thought it was heat related so I added another fan. I upgraded the power supply to 700 watts. But I still get the issues, usually only when the system is stressed like playing Overwatch. So I disabled the MSI Control Center and the Intel Turbo. When I run the Intel Processor Diagnostic Tool, I get a failure on the CPU frequency. Here is the output from the tests:

Hello melinn99,

Thank you for contacting Intel Communities.

I am sorry to hear you are having issues with the processor.

Can you please confirm the following information to better assist you?
  1. Do you have the latest BIOS version installed? (version 1.3)
    1. https://us.msi.com/Motherboard/support/X99A-GAMING-PRO-CARBON.html# support_download Support For X99A Gaming Pro Carbon
  2. What is the frequency of the RAM? (as seen in the BIOS)

I hope to hear from you soon.

Regards,

Juan V.

The memory is Hyperx 16GB DDR4 - 3000 CL 15 and it shows in BIOS as running at 3001MHz.

The BIOS version is E7A20IMS.130, so it is 1.3

Hello melinn99,

Based on the information you are providing (RAM @3001 MHz), the system is running out of specifications.

Altering clock frequency or voltage may damage or reduce the useful life of the processor and other system components, and may reduce system stability and performance. Product warranties may not apply if the processor is operated beyond its specifications.

The max supported RAM speed by the https://ark.intel.com/products/94189/Intel-Core-i7-6800K-Processor-15M-Cache-up-to-3_60-GHz Intel® Core™ i7-6800K Processor is 2400MHz. I would recommend downclocking the RAM to see if the issue persists; however, having the system running at those frequencies may have damaged the processor by now.

I hope this helps.

Best Regards,

Juan V.

HMMM, ok. I didn't know. I set the RAM to 2400MHz, and when I run the processor tests now it passes. I'll have to play with it awhile to see if the blue screen issues still occur now. Thank you

After spending the evening stressing the system, so far it hasn't crashed once, and it definitely would have by now. Overall the system is running much cooler than it had been too. I was concerned about over clocking the processor, but I didn't think about the memory. Thanks.
