      i had dump ref_os on intel joule board

      im trying to edit sshd_config file but its showing that its only read only file.

      and im trying to copy file from memory card is howing same

          From your reply: "im trying to edit sshd_config file but its showing that its only read only file". I interpret that you are modifying a file, but you are having permission issues. If this is correct have you try the command chmod +x file-name? If I'm not interpreting right your issue, could you be so kind to elaborate a little more, so that I can provide you the proper guidance for your issue.

              i have build Ref_Os for intel joule board (base image)

              instead of bitbake full-image

              i build

              bitbake base-image

              and follow the same procedure for making uSD as bootable device and boot from uSD card.

              i have boot it from uSD card and changed boot order to eMMC.

              now i want to send a application file to board through scp. its not allowing me to send file through scp ,it requires to change "#PermitRootLogin yes" from vi /etc/ssh/sshd_config but,

              it says that  '/etc/ssh/sshd_config' Read-only file system.

              if im trying to change the permissions by using "chmod" then

              root@intel-5xx-64:~# chmod 777 /etc/ssh/sshd_config

              if im trying to copy file from pendrive it says can't create file Read-only file system.

              even i tried to remount using sudo mount -o remount,rw /

              it shows-

              i have been check on my bootable uSD card its showing owner - root R/W group -root Access other - Access files

              and your not the owmer,so you can not change the permission.

                Thanks for explaining your issue in such a detailed manner!

                 

                Actually, I was able to reproduce your issue by mounting a USB stick on my Joule, then I was able to copy the file inside it. Please see the image below, so that you can understand better what I'm trying to explain.

                You should know that I was using the full image from here GitHub - 01org/ref-os-iot: This is the official distribution of the Intel(R) Reference Operating System for the Internet… , I will start building the base image, so that I can perform the same experiment with this image.

                      Thanks for your patience.

                       

                      I was able to build the base-image and flash it on my Joule, then I perform the same experiment of mounting a USB and copying a file on it. Unfortunately, I didn't encounter any errors, please see the image below.

                          I'm a little confused, when you say "one more thing when im installing os and while working on board this log msg interrupts". Which OS are you installing? From your first reply I understood that you were using the Ref OS IoT base-image, I'm I right?

                           

                          Now, regarding the BIOS update, are you following the steps in this guide IoT ? If you're, please be sure that you are using a Type-A to Type-C USB cable.

                            yes, im installing same Ref_os, while installing that above msg is comes frequently ,sometimes os not even installed msg come [R]rebbot/[S]shell ?

                            im not worried about bios setup ,i just neet help to resolve that read-only issue.

                              If you are having problems installing the Ref OS IoT, I would encourage to download the latest Joule image from Index of /ref-os-iot/releases/1704/5xx  and create a bootable device by following these instructions IoT . Then you can flash your image by following these guides:

                               

                              - IoT
                              - IoT

                               

                              Now, regarding the "read-only" issue, I would encourage to follow the steps that I provided here Re: read only files . I have summarized the steps in here:

                               

                              1) Navigate to media: cd media (Be sure you are on your home directory, if you aren't use the command cd ~ )
                              2) Create a directory call "usb": mkdir usb.
                              3) Mount your device: mount dev/sdx /media/usb (Where sdx is the name of your USB drive).
                              4) Copy the file: cp media/usb/name-of-the-file /path-where-you-want-to-copy

                                i know these steps for copying file from usb or pen-drive. im facing read-only file system while copying file.... using

                                CP cmd ,and regarding to pre-build os its having same issue with Index of /ref-os-iot/releases/1703/5xx and im even tried with ostro-os. same issue with this os also.

                                now im using Ref_os ....!!

                                  I understand that there are two issues, one related to copy a file from your USB and the other related to the image that you are using.

                                   

                                  We will investigate more about your permission error, in the meantime could you be so kind to format your USB drive and try again. Also, I would encourage to change the USB drive if this doesn't work.

                                   

                                  Finally, I would like to know what you meant when you said "now im using Ref_os ....!!", does this mean that your image error was fixed with the new release? If it wasn't I would encourage  you to download the newer version of the Ref OS IoT from here Index of /ref-os-iot/releases/1704/5xx .
