    i5-530M igpu max resolution

    mrkvel

      Hi,

I would like ask if anybody has tried to set up a custom resolution on igpu of i5-430m of 2k or higher? Intel® Core™ i5-430M Processor (3M Cache, 2.26 GHz) Product Specifications

says that the cpu has igpu "Intel HD graphics" but I have not found any specification about its maximum resolution.

          Hello mrkvel,

I understand you would like to know the maximum screen resolution the Intel® Core™ i5-430M Processor supports.

Let me apologize for any inconvenience this issue may be causing to you.

Intel HD Graphics supports 2560x1600 through Displayport* and FullHD (1920x1080) through HDMI, DVI and VGA.  You can confirm that information on this link https://software.intel.com/en-us/articles/hd-graphics-quick-reference-guide

Let me know if you have or not any other inquiry.

          Regards,
          Fred

Hello Fred. In the link, that you mention, i see the table 'Display and Audio Features Comparison' with the following content

Maximum Display Resolution | DisplayPort* 2560x1600, HDMI*, VGA

Don't know what '*' is mean. It is confuse. Can not figured out where you found information 'supports ... FullHD (1920x1080) through HDMI, DVI and VGA'.

            My problem:

I have notebook with Intel® Core™ i5-450M Processor (3M cache, 2.40 GHz) Product Specifications inside and want to buy 21:9 ratio monitor with max supported resolution 3440x1440. I have HDMI, ExpressCard, USB 3.0, VGA ports in my notebook.

            Questions:

            1) Intel® Core™ i5-450M Processor (3M cache, 2.40 GHz) Product Specifications has first generation Intel HD Graphics card?

            2) What part of my configuration is less efficient? Throughput of ports or capabilities of video card?

            3) It will be possible to use 3440x1440 resolution with first generation Intel HD Graphics card if i somehow get around the limitation of throughput of ports?

My original question was exactly because of this, I have acer 5820tg with i5-430M inside, it has HDMI and VGA ports. I want to buy a 2560x1440 monitor that has only display port and hdmi and I am not sure if the i5-430M igpu is capable of achieving this resolution. I don't mind setting up a custom one even at lower refresh rate.

                Hello rus,

We use the “*” when we are referring to trademarks or registered names.

The FullHD information is something we have in our internal database.

Yes, the Intel Intel® Core™ i5-450M Processor comes with first generation Intel HD Graphics.

I cannot tell you what part of the configuration is less efficient.  Depending on how the computer was built then the capabilities of it.

The maximum screen resolution you will be able to get with Intel HD Graphics is 2560x1600 through Displayport*.  With HDMI and VGA you will be able to get up to 1920x1080.

                Regards,
                Fred

                  Hello mrkvel,

Since your computer does not have Displayport* port then the maximum screen resolution you will be able to get is 1920x1080.

Thank you for your answers Fred. Actually, i have identical issue with mrkvel.

I think i get it, but correct me if i wrong.

                    I have asus n61jv with Intel® Core™ i5-450M inside.

I can plugin external monitor through HDMI or VGA port. It means max resolution what i can get is 1920x1080.

I'm not sure but think i can also use 'USB 3.0 to DisplayPort' adapter for example like this one Amazon.com: Cable Matters USB 3.0 to DisplayPort Adapter Supporting 4K Resolution: Computers & Accessories to get 2560x1600

                    One more question:

Can i change i5-450M to some new so what it allow me to get 3440x1440 resolution and extend RAM from 8Gb to some more? Or PGA988 socket is old?

                      Hello rus,

What happens is that our graphics controller will be able to work with the video ports that are embedded on the motherboard.  We cannot guarantee an USB to Displayport* adapter will be able to work fine.

It is not possible to upgrade the processor to make the computer work with 3440x1440 screen resolution.  Processors that support the screen resolution you are trying to use will not fit in your computer.

Let me know if you have or not any other inquiry.

Hello, Fred. Maybe it will offtop but i don't want to create new topic because question is similar.

What resolution and update frequency i can get with HP Notebook - 15-ay556ur? It has Core i3 6006u inside and HDMI port. (Don't know version of HDMI)

At this page Intel® Core™ i3-6006U i see that max resolution is 4096x2304 and update frequency for this resolution is 24Hz.

Do you have information about all available update frequencies per resolutions?

Can i get 60Hz for 3440x1440 and 2560x1080 resolutions through HDMI?

                          Hello rus,

The maximum resolution the Intel® Core™ i3-6006U Processor supports through HDMI is 4096x2304@24Hz.  Our graphics controller supports a wide variety of display resolutions at different refresh rates.

The screen resolutions 3440x1440 and 2560x1080 at 60Hz do not exceed the HDMI 1.4 bandwidth so they will be most likely supported by the graphics controller.  We recommend checking with HP* directly if the computer will be able to support the screen resolutions you are trying to reach.  Bear in mind that HP* can customize our components to their needs, and then can limit the screen resolutions the system will be able to support.  This link will give you their contact information https://support.hp.com/us-en/contact-hp

                          Regards,
                          Fred
