In this case, I suggest to download and run the Intel® Processor Diagnostic Tool on the host machine, this to discard any CPU issues.
If the test passes, I would recommend contacting your system manufacturer as the message that you receive is related to firmware and per the description you provided, you don't get any error if you don't run any VM.
Please bear in mind that you may be running Windows 8.1* Pro edition.
