Extremely laggoing behavior with 4K external display on XPS 15" 9560

I just got a new XPS 15" with the following specs and I'm confused with the extremely lagging performance on external 4k screen (Samsung U28E590). The screen resolution is good, but he mouse is lagging, and when I work on Adobe Premier on the external screen, everything lags on it, the mouse the keyboard and the video. Any idea what's wrong?

Weird enough, I had Macbook Pro 13" Late 2013 for 3 years before this PC and the performance was much better!

The max refresh rate I can see is 30 Hz!

Hello m_abdelfattah,

I understand mouse and applications lag on external monitor.

Let me apologize for any inconvenience this issue may be causing to you.

I would like you to try updating some of the computer drivers in a specific order.

Install this driver first, and then restart the computer http://www.dell.com/support/home/us/en/19/Drivers/DriversDetails?driverId=GH5T3 http://www.dell.com/support/home/us/en/19/Drivers/DriversDetails?driverId=GH5T3

Install this other driver, and then restart the computer one more time http://www.dell.com/support/home/us/en/19/Drivers/DriversDetails?driverId=4HP0D http://www.dell.com/support/home/us/en/19/Drivers/DriversDetails?driverId=4HP0D

Download the graphics driver that is on this link https://downloadmirror.intel.com/26669/eng/win64_154516.4627.zip https://downloadmirror.intel.com/26669/eng/win64_154516.4627.zip

Please install the graphics driver with the steps that are on this YouTube video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=S1KzoQDjMMY https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=S1KzoQDjMMY

Please also install the monitor driver from this other link http://org.downloadcenter.samsung.com/downloadfile/ContentsFile.aspx?CDSite=US&CttFileID=6069127&CDCttType=DR&ModelType=C&ModelName=LU24E590DS/ZA&VPath=DR/201504/20150416155354351/U24E590D.exe http://org.downloadcenter.samsung.com/downloadfile/ContentsFile.aspx?CDSite=US&CttFileID=6069127&CDCttType=DR&ModelType=C&ModelName=LU24E590DS/ZA&VPath=DR/201504/20150416155354351/U24E590D.exe

Thank you for your reply.

1. A newer version of the first link "Intel Chipset Device Software" is already installed. Should I downgrade?

2. A newer version is already installed.

3. When I try to install the newer VGA driver, it tells me that it does not support my version of windows (Windows 10 Creators update).

Hello m_abdelfattah,

Yes, please reinstall the drivers I provided. The chipset driver and Intel ME driver I provided are the ones Dell* has validated for your specific computer model.

If possible please provide a screenshot of the error message you are getting during graphics driver update.

Regards,

Thank you for your reply, but I'm afraid to tell you, the installed updates which are newer than the ones you sent are already downloaded from dell site for my laptop model, here are them:

1. http://www.dell.com/support/home/us/en/19/Drivers/DriversDetails?driverId=RNXGY&fileId=3657681029&osCode=WT64A&productCode=xps-15-9560-laptop&languageCode=en&categoryId=CS Intel(R) Management Engine Components Installer Driver Details | Dell US

And finally, here is the screenshot for the driver error

But there is something weird, when I check Information Center in Intel HD Graphics Control Panel, I can see that Driver Version: 21.20.16.4627 is installed! Here is a screenshot:

So, now I assume I've all the drivers installed and updated, however I can't get my 4k Screen to work on 60hz, and there is a crazy lagging!

Hello m_abdelfattah,

If current driver version is 21.20.16.4627 then most likely the installation went through fine. I would like you to verify in Device Manager if you get or not the exact same driver version. On the keyboard press WinLogo key + r, then type in devmgmt.msc, double click on Display Adapters>>Intel HD Graphics 630>>Driver tab, and check if the driver version is or not the same.

Let me know if the issue happens when you use the monitor on Extended Desktop or Single Display or in both.

According to the specs of the monitor it comes with two HDMI ports and one Displayport*. If possible try different video cable and/or different video port.

Unfortunately nothing worked. I ordered Displayport cable, will test it and reply if it worked or not.

intel_corp, I got a new DisplayPort cable and I can get the screen to work on 60hz finally. The problem now is Adobe premier is still extremely lagging while editing, even when I move the window, it takes a couple of seconds to render the contents!

Hello m_abdelfattah,

I am sorry to hear you are still having issues with Adobe Premier.

I was checking the minimum PC requirements of the application, and it looks like the application has not been validated for Intel HD Graphics 630. This link will provide more information about PC requirements of Adobe* Premiere https://helpx.adobe.com/premiere-pro/system-requirements.html https://helpx.adobe.com/premiere-pro/system-requirements.html

At this point what I can recommend is checking with Adobe* if there is any patch or workaround available to make the application work with Intel HD Graphics 630. This link will give you their contact information https://helpx.adobe.com/contact.html https://helpx.adobe.com/contact.html

Regards,
