Thank you very much for joining the Intel® graphics communities.
In order to try to fix this problem we recommend to use the graphics drivers provided by the manufacturer, in this case Dell, in there you can choose the operating system, please look for the video files:
Not sure if the model of the laptop on the previous link is the one you are using, but it says that it fully supports Windows® 7 or Vista, so the problem with the colors could be related to that, since the graphics driver needed will not be available.
Another thing to try will be a BIOS update to the latest version, please check with Dell directly about this option so they can provide all the details about how to do that.
Also, just in case, depending on the Windows version you are using, on the following link you will find the latest version of the graphics drivers for Intel® HD Graphics 4400:
On this link you will see an alternative to disable the Windows automatic updates:
Windows® 7 and Vista:
Dell’s phone number: 1 800-624-9897
Dell’s support site: http://www.dell.com/support/home/us/en/19

Any further questions, please let me know.
Uninstalling the driver and installing the version in your link (Driver 4501) solved the issue. In addition to this I used the guide to disable the autoupdate - just in case ..!
Thank you Alberto!
