NUC is equipped with USB3 ports only. Windows & installation doesn't support USB3 unless you add this support into Win 7 installation. There are few discusion in this forum how to do this. You can use also the procedure from the following link:
You can follow the steps for Windows® 7 installation on the Intel® NUC6i7KYK:
Intel has created Windows 7 USB 3 Creator Utility: Download Windows 7* USB 3.0 Creator Utility . May be you can use it to add USB 3.o driver to your installation media. Please read the read me file attached on the tool download page, to see how to use this tool.
Thank you very much to lw1948 for the suggestions posted previously.
As it was mentioned before, the Windows® 7 installation package does not include the drivers for USB 3.0, that is why the drivers need to be installed manually.
Using the USB 3.0 creator Utility is always a good option to do this process, we work with that tool in our lab and we were able to install the drivers properly and use the USB 3.0 keyboard and mouse.
Please let us know the results of trying the steps above.
Any further questions, please let me know.
I was able to download a ISO of windows 7 from one of the above posts and it worked to install windows 7 with out a problem until the computer rebooted for the first time and it seemed that the version of windows that was loaded from the ISO again did not have the USB 3.0 drivers. I was back in the same boat and unable to provide input to the system. Finally decided to just load Windows 10 on the system as the items that I wanted to do with this units worked with Win 10. Did have to use the 64 bit version but not a problem.
Thanks for the input.
That is correct; you have to take the downloaded image and modify it (inserting the USB 3.0 driver) before you will be able to complete the Windows 7 install. Use the resource listed above for details on the process to follow...
Hope this helps,
In contradiction to some members in this forum I use and prefer to use Windows 10 rather than Windows 7. Yes, you shall use Windows 10 64 bit as this is 64 bit machine. I want point out again that if you want use Windows 7, you can add USB 3.0 driver to your Installation media, using Intel Windows 7 USB 3 Creator Utility (see link in my post #1 above). This is very easy if you follow the instruction in read me file. You need use Windows 7 image including SP1. You need also to have the product key.
Thank you very much to N. Scott Pearson and lw1948 for the information posted preciously.
Perfect, it is great to hear that you were able to install Windows® 10 and that the NUC is working fine with that operating system, it is actually very user friendly and easy to use.
In regard to the process of installing the USB 3.0 drivers with the creator tool, there have been some reports stating that you need to use Windows 8.1 and the USB 3.0 creator tool for the USB 3.0 mouse and keyboard to work properly during the Windows® 7 installation.
I did that process with Windows 8.1 and I was able to install Windows®7 with no problems on the Intel® NUC6i3SYH.
Any questions, please let me know.
