Sorry Calvinz, I meant to reply on Friday but I've had a meeting I need to prepare for that has taken most of my time.

I have done some testing, and I plan to do more this week, but I'm not finished yet and want to complete everything before I say what I'm seeing.

If for some reason I don't get back to you by Friday please ping me again.

        Thank you for your patience.

I do have to ask, is anyone else experiencing this??

Yes, i have the same problem. One thing i noticed was that another user that has the same issue and i both are using a Yamaha 81 series receiver. I'm not sure if that is a coincidence though.

yes this issue does happen commonly in the market, and does not seem to be limited to any specific AV amplifier at the least.

              I have some results.

First, lets start with the Jellyfish files.

              1. Played perfectly

              2&3. Barely played at all

There's a reason 2&3 barely played.  The Skylake platform does NOT support 10-bit HEVC, at least via HW decoding, which is what I assume is wanted.  You can read that here: 6th Generation Intel® Core™ Processor Family Datasheet, Vol. 1 , the 'note' on the top of page 31.

I tried a bunch of other files from here: Demo UHD-3D, and Demo World, and they all worked except one-Sony 4K - Camp-which makes me think it's the file.

These are the files I tried:

Tibet: 2D Demo Trailers (UHD) Download Center

              Camp: Demo Ultra-HD - Sony 4K - Camp

Paris: 2D Demo Trailers (UHD) Download Center

Sydney: 2D Demo Trailers (UHD) Download Center

HD Club Showreel: Demo Ultra-HD - HD Club - Showreel

              And a bunch more.

I tried the files at UHD (3840x2160), 1080p, changed the display to use different Hz rates.

Sorry, but can you try some of these files above so at least we're using the same files?

BTW, my setup is as follows:

              NUC6i7KYK (also a NUC7i3BNK to compare)

              BIOS 0042 and 0045

              32GB RAM

              1TB m.2 SATA Intel SSD

              43 Sony XBR43X800D

              A/V Receiver Onkyo TX-NR646 (HDMI 1.4)

It seems last week, I could sporadically reproduce this, but whatever I do this week I can't!!

Many thanks on your effort for this, I shall try with the same files but the issue happens to me so frequent that I think any file wouldn't make a difference.

However I have just done a clean installation of Win10 and updated to Creators Update just to make sure it wasn't my installation issue. But the glitch still persists. But there was one interesting option introduced in this update which is the Spatial Audio support within the OS itself. It seems to enforce all audio stream into a Dolby Atmos stream. I checked this setting and my glitches were gone ! But i wouldn't take this as a permanent solution since I wouldn't want all my streams to be upmixed that way.

Furthermore i did heard some people mentioning it could also be related to the installed ram on board where users with only a single DIMM installed would have a higher rate of hitting the issue, which I myself is equipped with such configuration.

I do notice you had also tried with a newer bios version which is unreleased too ?

You are welcome, I truly do want to help!

Huh, that's interesting, I wonder if somehow it is OS related.  These are so frustrating when it's not reproducible!!

I totally believe you're having these issues, but w/o reproducing it, it's so hard to get additional help!

Another question.  Do you have the freezes when connecting directly to the TV w/o the amp?  I know it's not quite the same, but just another data point.

I'm the one that posts the BIOS updates so it's been out for a few days, but yes it's certainly newer, you can grab it here: https://downloadcenter.intel.com/download/26671/NUCs-BIOS-Update-KYSKLi70-86A-?product=89187

                  Couple more things.

One, I searched through all the posts, but it didn't look like you updated to GFX driver version .4590 yet, have you?  If not you can get it here: Download Intel® HD Graphics Driver for Windows 7*, 8.1*, and Windows® 10 for Intel® NUC Kit NUC6i7KYK.  I'll also be posting version .4627 next week.

Also, is there any way you can test different RAM or a dual channel?  Understandable if not, have to ask.

It's equally frustrating that I can have it every minute I'm doing anything on the NUC besides playing bitstream capable videos.

When the NUC is connected directly to the TV there would not be any issues. Besides that I do not think its OS specific as I have tried to do a liveCD boot of ubuntu and it still happens. Unfortunately I'm unable to get hold of another RAM module for testing, maybe you could try with a single install configuration ?

On my new installation, i've used the latest driver for GFX "GFX_64bit_21.20.16.4590_Customized_PV" and for the records I have also reset the BIOS settings to factory default in case if there's anything amiss there. I'll also try out with the new BIOS you have provided, thanks for that

"It's equally frustrating that I can have it every minute I'm doing anything on the NUC besides playing bitstream capable videos."

I'm glad you said this as all I've really been focusing on is bitstreaming.  I'm sorry to do this to you, but can you explain exactly what you're doing and the setup when it glitches?

What I mean is, if you're not bitstreaming, are you having the NUC decode the video?  Are you still going through the receiver-I'm 99% sure you are, just want to make sure.   Are you playing stereo?  Are you having the application or the receiver make 'fake surround' if you are going stereo?

I know this is annoying and I'm sure you've answered several of these questions before, but if you could literally do a step one (with screenshot if possible), step two, etc. vs me searching through this thread, to make sure I haven't missed anything I think it would be incredibly helpful.  Also which files you're using.

Again, I'm sorry, but when I have 15 different issues I'm working on, it's incredibly complicated to pull out all the pertinent details of a case without a list.

I will also try with just one stick of RAM.

I wasn't doing anything else in specific while the glitches were happening

                        1. Playing youtube music videos playlist from Vevo channel

                        2. Playing ordinary music via VLC

I am pretty sure NUC is doing all the decoding and only does a passthrough to AV amplifier when bitstream is required. And yes I am still connected to the AV amplifier and it's on default All Ch Stereo mode with no "fake surround" configured on both the amplifier and OS. For the record, "fake surround" on the OS level I have mentioned before seems to eliminate this problem. Could it have been related to the default format being sent from the OS ? By default its "16bit, 48000 Hz (DVD quality), can be seen from Default sound device properties -> Advanced tab.

"I know this is annoying and I'm sure you've answered several of these questions before, but if you could literally do a step one (with screenshot if possible), step two, etc. vs me searching through this thread, to make sure I haven't missed anything I think it would be incredibly helpful.  Also which files you're using."

I don't get this part you're requesting for, you meant the troubleshooting steps I have carried out ? I have attached the most relevant troubleshooting sections and sorted them in order as attached. And pretty much every ordinary audio file would be affected as I have mentioned it even happens while streaming youtube videos or playing just mp3 files.

In another thread I was suggested to upgrade HDMI firmware to the v1.66. That fixed the issue I had been having with 4K resolution and sound drop out.

Good to know and thanks for the feedback HypnoDog.

Calvinz, I mus admit, it is going very slowly as not very many users are saying they are having these issues, at least not after they updated their systems firmware, BIOS, drivers, etc.

The part where I asked for you to provide a setup, what I meant is when these glitches happen how is your NUC setup, and what are you playing?

First, we need to make sure we're both using the same files, I've posted several that I've used, can you use one or two of those, and let me know which ones you're using please?

Two, are you going through an A/V receiver or not (I'm pretty sure you said you are, but we've talked about both, so I want to make sure).

Three, if you are going through an A/V receiver, can you please NOT go through the receiver so we can take that piece out of the setup?

Four, once the A/V receiver is out, is the sound on your NUC setup in any special way?  Here's how mine is:

                              Thanks.
