    DX58SO Lost Sound, was working

    Dr.Who

My system has an i7 920 2.67 GHz processor, 6 GB of DDR3 RAM, 1000w power supply, a GTX295 graphics card. OS is Win7 Ultimate. Initially the sound worked perfectly. In my system a cable is connected between the SPDIF header on the motherboard and the GTX295 graphics card which is set up to provide audio via the HDMI cable to my monitors speakers. All of a sudden I don't have sound from my monitor speakers or through my headphone. Checked all the connections and everything is connected correctly. I tried using the troubleshooter in windows to find out why the sound did not work and the best it came up with is that the device (sound chip) is NOT CONNECTED. Has anyone seen this issue with this motherboard previously? I went to the "sound" tab under Control Panel and then right clicked on the default playback device and selected "TEST". The result was a warning message saying "Failed to play test tone". Anyone got any ideas on what the issue might be?
