Microsoft SurfaceBook and the SR300 Driver issues

I am using a Microsoft SurfaceBook with i7 and 16gb of ram. I just received the SR300 from intel. I have installed the latest DCM and SDK. However, the DCM fails to install with the following error:

The installer failed to detect an Intel® RealSense™ 3D camera on this system. The installation was terminated.

I have tried all sorts of sequences to intall the driver, reboot, reconnect, uninstall the SDK, reinstall etc. etc.

There are a number of threads here that illustrate a similar problem with no fixes.

Is there a know issue with the latest SR300 drivers and a recent Windows update? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

The device seems to be properly recognized in the device viewer - but it is not recognized by the SDK.

There is still no universal fix for the Surface Book, sadly, only things you can try. Some of them work for some people and others do not.

One developer who, like you, was unable to install the DCM on their Surface Book noticed that when they started the Camera Explorer test app (findable by typing 'camera explorer' into the text box on your bottom of the Windows screen beside the button where you shut down), the SR-300's Virtual Driver was vanishing from the Windows Device Manager almost immediately after running the app, and then the Camera Explorer app froze up

Looking through a number of camera reports I looked through where the user had been asked to list what was shown in the Device Manager, a common theme was the absence of the Virtual Driver - they just had the RGB and Depth cameras listed in their Device Manager.

There was another post by a Surface Book user in which I listed some possible fixes. If you have not read it yet, you may find some useful insights there.

Hi gohorns79,

Do you still need assistance with this case? Did you have a chance to look at MartyG's suggestion?

I ended up buying an externally powered USB3 hub. This seemed to have solved the problem for the most part. However, I need to boot the machine up with everything plugged in for the system to properly recognize the camera. So it looks like the issue is related to voltage supply by my SurfaceBook.

Glad you found a solution that worked for you, Gohorns. It has been suspected by some that the design of the USB ports in the Surface Book takes the form of an unpowered hub, which RealSense doesn't like. So a powered mains hub would indeed address the power issues caused by that, if that is the case. Good luck!
