    Edison Hardware Watchdog

    RichH

I am not entirely clear that Edison has a hardware watchdog in the SOC. There is sample software watchdog code  (/usr/bin/watchdog-sample), and there is a /dev/watchdog present

Can someone point me to data sheet on the SOC hw watchdog?

Can someone point to code using this? Is the standard linux watchdog (8) utility sufficient to utilize the (presumably ) hardware watchdog found in /dev/watchdog?

I have see prior threads on this but which do not provide the answers to this:

      Watchdog functionality in Edison

How to use watchdog in edison

      Thanks in advance.

            Hi RichH,

Thank you for your patience. We’ve investigated about your case and found out that the Edison does not have general purpose watchdog timers. Additional to this,we also received an alternative option for you. The option would be to use an external watchdog component and connect into the SoC GPIO and PMIC reset signals for monitoring of events.

Please let us know if this is useful and if there’s anything else we can do to assist you.
