    Bug with RST since v14 which doesn't allow HDDs to spin down

    FMJ

      Hello

      Tested with different disks and with all versions between 14.0 and 15.2 : the bug is attested. The spin-down function was OK in 13.6.

      Do you know why this bug hasn't been solved within more than 19 lonnnnnnnnnnng month ????!!!

      Yet it has been reported long time ago !

      New RST 14.0.0.1143 doesn't allow HDDs to spin down (bug?)

      Thank you

                Dear Angie

                Please excuse my late reply.

                Find here below the system report of my system (with RST 15.2.0.1020).

                My issue concerns RAID 1 mode exclusively. In AHCI mode, no problem, the same disks used for the RAID 1 tests do asleep correctly.

                I configured Windows power option to asleep disks after 5min of inactivity.

                I used the same drives.

                Test 1 with RST 13.2.4 --> "RAID 1" disk spinning-off : OK

                Test 2 with RST 13.6.0 --> "RAID 1" disk spinning-off : OK

                Test 3 with RST 14.8.0 --> "RAID 1" disk spinning-off : KO

                Test 4 with RST 15.2.0 --> "RAID 1" disk spinning-off : KO

                In the failed tests, the disks didn't spin off after more than 30min of inactivity.

                Thank you for your help

                    I would like to inform you that this was sent to the appropriate department in order to further investigate.

                    We will update this as soon as we have findings.

                      Dear Juan,

                      Thank you for your attention.

                      I only hope this thread won't have the same conclusion than the thread I gave in my introduction, I mean no technical explanation from Intel and a post closure !

                      Re: New RST 14.0.0.1143 doesn't allow HDDs to spin down (bug?)

                      Last precisions : I experienced this bug with different system (i.e. motherboard), 2 differents OS (Win 8 & Win 10) and 4 or 5 different HD (Western, Seagate, Samsung), including a pair of exactly the same model and capacity.

                      So, for me it's not an isolated case but a general issue !

                        In the meantime, to complete the system configuration, can you please provide the brand & model number of the motherboard?

                        Or, you can also include the report from the Intel® System Support Utility

                        I am looking forward to hearing from you.

                                  Hello FMJ,

                                  The report provided by the Intel® System Support Utility contains different information than the System Reports for Intel® Rapid Storage Technology.

                                  This is why it is important to obtain it.

                                  Regards,

                                    Hello

                                    Hereby are the required report for version 13.0, 14.0 & 15.2

                                    I did again a full test process with the Asus Z170 Deluxe motherboard and 2 new WD RED 4To. A the symptoms are still exactly the same :

                                    > RST 13.1, 13.2.4 & 13.6  --> The Windows spin down timer functions correctly with no-RAID disks and with RAID 1 disks

                                    > RST 14.0 to 15.2  --> The Windows spin down timer functions correctly with no-RAID disks but NOT with RAID 1 disks

                                    This issue is NOT random : it occurs INELUCTABLY, on every MB, OS and disks I tested ! No exception !

                                    So this report was the last thing I can do to make things change !

                                    If Intel doesn't want, or is no more able to carry on this spinning down function on its RST drivers, they just have to say it clairly and we will mourn for it, that's all !

                                    Thank you

                                    Best regards
