Hello nlmo,

We understand you've recently purchased a Netgear* Nighthawk* X6 Tri-Band Wireless Router, and are currently experiencing connectivity issues with your Gateway* desktop computer. We'll be more than glad to assist you with this. Before we start, we would like to get some more information.

Note: the http://http//www.intel.com/content/dam/www/public/us/en/documents/product-briefs/82579-gbe-controller-brief.pdf Intel® 82579v Gigabit Network Connection is an integrated LAN controller, not a wireless adapter. If you're having issues with your wired connection, you will need to create a post in the /community/wired Wired Ethernet forums instead (or simply let us know and we'll gladly move the thread for you).

1. What operating system are you using? Ie. Windows* 7 64-bit.

2. If you open the Device Manager, under Network Adapters, what other devices do you see?

3. Where you able to connect to wireless networks before? Does this issue only occur with your new router?

4. If you're unable to answer any of these questions, please download and run the https://downloadcenter.intel.com/download/25293/Intel-System-Support-Utility Intel® System Support Utility (you may need to download this on a different computer, and use an USB Thumb drive to run it on the system with the issue). This application will scan your system and allow you to save this report. Please attach the report to your response using the advanced editor at the top right.

We look forward to hearing back from you.

Best regards,

Carlos A.

Working on a Windows 10 64-bit

Under Network Adaptors, also show 802.11n Wireless LAN Card by MediaTek, version 5.0.48.0

System had been working, (but not well - losing connection often) on a Linksys WRT160N V2.) Had had no problems until about 6 months ago when we relocated. Gateway seemed to not pick up wireless as well at new location. Had tried a signal booster but no luck. Decided to get newer router. All other devices are working with new router.

It sounds like this may be a hardware issue.

You've ruled out possibility of it being the router when you confirmed all other devices are working on it.

This instantly jumps to your machine as the prime suspect for causing issues. You're trying to connect via wifi and it keeps dropping off, this is actually quite normal for a dead (going dead) wifi card.

The wifi card will need to be replaced, you most likely have a mini pci-e slot, all you'll need is a wifi card like one of these to replace it. Good luck!

Hello nlmo,

It seems that your computer does not have an http://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/wireless-products/wireless-product-selection-guide.html Intel® Wireless Adapter. We do not provide support for MediaTek* adapters, but in a best effort basis, we can still make some recommendations to help you resolve your problem, or find the correct support channel.

Like @Terrylee23 suggested, it's possible that your wireless adapter may be going bad. Since your computer is a desktop system, we can recommend the http://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/wireless-products/dual-band-wireless-ac-7260-bluetooth-desktop.html Intel® Dual Band Wireless-AC 7260 + Bluetooth* for Desktop. Aside from this adapter, you would need to contact your computer manufacturer to find which adapters have been pre-approved for your system. You may also like to search for an USB Wireless adapter, as this would be the simplest solution.

Troubleshooting wise, we can recommend the following Microsoft* article:

- https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help/10741/windows-10-fix-network-connection-issues Fix network connection issues in Windows® 10.

You may also want to contact your http://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/support/topics/oems.html computer manufacturer to make sure your wireless adapter is Windows® 10 compatible, and is using the latest drivers. You may also contact MediaTek* directly for this (I was unable to locate their contact information). It's also important to make sure your adapter's wireless antenna is connected properly and located as openly as possible.

Note: Any links provided for third party tools or sites are offered for your convenience and should not be viewed as an endorsement by Intel® of the content, products, or services offered there. We do not offer support for any third party tool mentioned here.

We hope this information helps.

Best regards,
