Why does my 6900k not clock at 4Ghz when Turbo Boost 3.0 is active?

I've bought a 6900k processor and when I install the Turbo Boost 3.0 driver, I am only clocking at 3.7Ghz.

Intel Ark says that the 6900k processor clocks at 4Ghz when Turbo Boost 3.0 is enabled and has a max boost of 3.7Ghz:

https://ark.intel.com/products/94196/Intel-Core-i7-6900K-Processor-20M-Cache-up-to-3_70-GHz Intel® Core™ i7-6900K Processor (20M Cache, up to 3.70 GHz) Specifications

When I run 3DMark benchmarking software, I can see that my processor is running at 100%, but that it caps at 3.7Ghz.

My motherboard is an MSI Intel X99A RGB LED GAMING PRO CARBON ATX Motherboard.

I've looked in the BIOS and I think that I've set everything up correctly to enable Turbo Boost.

EDIT:

I have installed the Turbo Boost 3.0 drivers successfully and added 3dmark (64bit) software to the apps list.

I was also running 3dmark in the main window when benchmarking

Anyone have any ideas?

Thanks!

Hello SnowCone161803,

In regard to your concern, for what I can confirm at the link with the technical specifications of your processor:

https://ark.intel.com/products/94196/Intel-Core-i7-6900K-Processor-20M-Cache-up-to-3_70-GHz Intel® Core™ i7-6900K Processor (20M Cache, up to 3.70 GHz) Specifications

Your Turbo Boost is working fine, under the expected frequency of 3.70GHz**, and the processor base frequency of 3.20GHz.

Please bear in mind, that Intel does not support overclocking, due that this might affect the performance of your processor among others, and this will void the warranty of it.

**You will be able to confirm this matter on the attachment of this thread.

I am looking forward to hearing from you.

Best regards,

Angie
