Intel HD 620 graphical glitching all the time on desktop!!!

Hello!

I'm getting graphical glitching on my desktop on my new Lenovo computer using intel i5-7200U and intel HD graphics 620. After about one day of use the screen started having graphical glitching issues with artifacts randomly flickering on the screen all the time. For example, if I'm on my desktop, I have the Trashcan and Spotify icon at the top of my desktop, and I will see "ghosts" of these icons flickering over the lower half of the screen. I tried updating the graphics driver to the latest version but it didn't help: http://support.lenovo.com/se/sv/products/laptops-and-netbooks/yoga-series/yoga-910-13ikb/downloads/DS119192 http://support.lenovo.com/se/sv/products/laptops-and-netbooks/yoga-series/yoga-910-13ikb/downloads/D...

The graphical artifacts that flicker on the screen seem to be based on what content I have on the screen currently. So if I'm in a browser, I'll see the top of my browser flickering on the lower half of the screen occasionally. The flickering disappears when I start a game like World of Warcraft or Open RollerCoaster Tycoon 2 (I tested both in windowed mode). When I guit RCT2 the flickering/glitching starts again. So it seems to be related to being on the desktop/in a browser, but fine when in a game.

How do I fix this???

Hello pianist93:

In order to try to fix this issue we can try the following drivers, this is the beta driver 4552:

https://downloadcenter.intel.com/download/26464/Intel-Graphics-Beta-Driver-15-45-?product=96551 https://downloadcenter.intel.com/download/26464/Intel-Graphics-Beta-Driver-15-45-?product=96551

If that driver does not work we can also try driver 4542:

https://downloadcenter.intel.com/download/26404/Intel-Graphics-Driver-15-45-?product=96551 https://downloadcenter.intel.com/download/26404/Intel-Graphics-Driver-15-45-?product=96551

Since the Intel drivers are generic it is recommended to use the drivers provided by the manufacturer, but based on that fact that you already tried that and the problem remains another option will be to get in contact directly with Lenovo in order to get additional troubleshoot steps or further technical or warranty assistance, maybe a BIOS update is needed:

Lenovo's phone number: 1-877-453-6686

Lenovo's support site: http://support.lenovo.com/ http://support.lenovo.com/

Any questions, please let me know.

Regards

Alberto

Thanks for your response.

Windows 10 won't allow me to install the driver because it is not signed by the manufacturer. It says on the intel support site that there are risks associated with deleting the already installed driver and then installing the unsigned as a workaround. What are these risks and would it be possible to get back the Lenovo driver in case I screw up?

I'm on the latest BIOS, it was actually after the BIOS update to v34 for Lenovo Yoga 910 that the issues came, immediately after the restart after the update the flickering of "ghosts" started.

Hello pianist93:

About your question, yes, you can always try that driver, there will be 2 scenarios, either Windows will not accept it, or it will get installed and it will not harm the laptop, after that you can test it and if the problem persists you can un-install it.

If the problem started after the BIOS update, then you can try to go back to a previous version, but before you try that, I will suggest to contact Lenovo directly to check if that option is possible or if there is a work around to fix the problem, and to check if there is a driver from them that might fix it.

Any questions, please let me know.

Hey! I tried uninstalling the driver but Windows wouldn't let me install the new driver - i got an error along the lines of (translating) "this device doesn't meet the minimum requirements".

Restarting the computer made the old driver restore itself automatically, somehow.

One thing to note is that the flickering got much, much worse when I had uninstalled the driver, multiple copies of the screen image filling up the screen every now and then, together with lots of shaking and flickering. With the old driver back it's back to the normal random flickering of copies of the content at the top of the screen flickering in the bottom half.

Could it be a hardware fault? Or does it sound like a software problem to you since graphically intensive apps that render stuff like games make the flickering go away as long as they are running?

I will try to contact lenovo support but it seems very cumbersome.

Hello pianist93:

That error message is basically saying that the driver is not compatible with this system, but it did not cause any harm to it because it was not installed.

In regard to your question, yes, this problem could be related to a hardware failure, and the thing is that at this point from our end we basically tried all the troubleshoot steps we have available, at this point the next thing to do will be to get in contact directly with Lenovo.

As an option there are some drivers that get installed when you do a Windows update, so that is also a step that you can try, but right now it will be better to get in contact with Lenovo directly in case a replacement of the unit is needed.

Any questions, please let me know.

Thanks for your reply and assistance.

A replacement unit might be in order.

I'l just leave a video here of how the issue looks so that if somebody else encounters the same issue they can know it's a hardware fault.
