Hello,

my one year old notebook is equipped with a Broadwell i7-5600u cpu and a HD 5500 graphic card which are advertised as supporting directx12. But when i start the game i am asked if i want to start civ or civ directx12 for windows 10 1607+ and when i choose directx12 option I've an error saying that there's no equipment supporting DX12. Is it normal ?

thank you in advance for any information !

Kind regards

Edit : my drivers are up to date and dxdiag tells that DDI D3D is 12 and functionality are 11_1 only

Hello gilles1:

Just to make sure here is the latest graphics driver for Intel® HD Graphics 5500 controller, it is the beta driver 4539:

https://downloadcenter.intel.com/download/26347/Intel-Beta-Graphics-Driver-for-Windows-10-and-Windows-7-8-1-15-40-?product=86210 https://downloadcenter.intel.com/download/26347/Intel-Beta-Graphics-Driver-for-Windows-10-and-Windows-7-8-1-15-40-?product=86210

If that driver does not work you can try the following, it is version 4501:

https://downloadcenter.intel.com/download/26228/Intel-Graphics-Driver-for-Windows-10-and-Windows-7-8-1-15-40-?product=86210 https://downloadcenter.intel.com/download/26228/Intel-Graphics-Driver-for-Windows-10-and-Windows-7-8-1-15-40-?product=86210

In regard to your inquiry, yes the graphics controller supports DirectX 12, as you can confirm on the following link:

Also, the game was tested and confirmed it should work just fine, on the following link you will find the recommended settings to play it:

https://gameplay.intel.com/GamesSettings/8913/85215/Intel%C2%AE%20Core%E2%84%A2%20i7-5600U%20Processor%20(4M%20Cache,%20up%20to%203.20%20GHz) https://gameplay.intel.com/GamesSettings/8913/85215/Intel%C2%AE%20Core%E2%84%A2%20i7-5600U%20Processor%20(4M%20Cache,%20up%20to%203.20%20GHz)

Please let me know the results of trying the above steps:

Any questions, please let me know.

Hello Alberto,

and thank you for your very detailed answer. Here is a screenshot

as you can see the drivers are 4531. But this panel also indicates that the directx version used by the graphic card is 11.1 and not 12.0 which is pretty consistent with the options proposed at the start of the game. Civ starts prefectly in DX11 mode but not at all in DX12 mode.

and btw, thank you for the settings tips.

I will give a try to your above mentionned drivers

kind regards

Hello gilles1:

Thank you very much for providing the picture, it is very helpful for us.

And yes, even though the version of DriectX is 12.0 for this specific driver hardware wise it will support or run the version 11.1. so it is actually expected that you get the message that there is no equipment supporting DirectX12.

Any questions, please let me know.

Hello gilles1:

I just wanted to let you know that we are still doing the investigation on this matter in order to try to find a possible fix for it, we just need to verify a few details.

Please install the SSU tool (System Support Utility):

Hello gilles1:

I just wanted to let you know that I just got some updates about the investigation we did on the Direct X feature, and the thing is that Civilization VI is requiring a GPU that can support DX12 Feature Level 12_0. Some games while running on Windows 10, may require Feature Level 12_0 support from the GPU to use DX12 runtime, and on Broadwell the maximum Feature Level supported is 11_1.

Some games can run on DX12 runtime mode, but internally would be using DirectX Feature Level 11_0 or higher (i.e. Hardware support). This depends on the game itself, some may be compatible with DX12 + 11_x feature level.

Any further questions, please let me know.

Regards

Alberto
