I am building a system to use as a home file server based on the DP45SG board. I would like (if possible) to run it without a graphics card (less power, heat, maintenance), but I haven't had much luck so far. The original bios was 0118 and seemed to stop during POST (1 short beep, long pause, 1 short beep - as during normal boot with RAID). I upgraded to 0125 (currently latest), because I found this in the release notes:
BIOS Version 0121
About This Release:
• August 28, 2009
• Enabled headless operation without graphics card.
The results are the same. What am I missing?
Is that a typo in Release Notes or a bug in BIOS?
Never mind, I found the problem.
It was Grub2, which hangs if there is no graphics card and splash image is set. The solution is to disable splash image in grub.conf.
