May the Wi-Fi card installed in NUC 5PPYH be replaced with another Intel's one, e.g. Wireless-AC 7265NGW?

The specs list a 22x30 m.2 slot, so you should be able to add another card and disable the on-board chip.

Actually, in this NUC design, the WiFi solution is IN this slot, so you would just be replacing it with another...

Hello Alberto,

Is Wireless-AC 7265NGW card compatible with NUC5PPYH? I guess that it should be but would like to refine before buying...

I believe that the AC-7265NGW should work. You can also look at the AC-8260NGW as well...

Hello:

Thank you very much once again to N. Scott Pearson for the information provided above.

To Pavel_N.:

Yes, according to the specifications of that wireless card it is compatible with form-factor M.2 2230, so it should work with the NUC, you can confirm that information on the following link:

Well, alberto_intel, it seems you were wrong... I've tried to replace factory-installed 3165 card with both Wireless-AC 7260 and 7265 cards (bought from different sellers) with no luck In both cases the same problem appears: after installation, Bluetooth module works fine but Wi-Fi module doesn't work at all. The card even is not recognized as a network card of any kind by OS (Win10 PRO 64 bit). It looks like 5PPYH has some sort of "whitelist" or something like that, which makes it impossible to install other Wi-Fi adapter but AC 3165. Am I right?

Hello Pavel_N.:

According to our information, the Intel® Dual Band Wireless-AC 7265 wireless card should work with the NUC5PPYH, remember that wireless card is fully compatible with Microsoft Windows® 7, 8 and 8.1, in this case since you are using Windows® the wireless feature might not be working as it supposed due to a driver issue.

For testing purposes, do you have the option to test the NUC with Windows® 7, 8 or 8.1?

Any further questions, please let me know.

Regards

Alberto

No, Alberto, I have no chance to test it with Win 7/8/8.1. But I guess that 7265 card should work with Win 10 too, since such card is pre-installed on another NUC I have, 5i3RYH, and works flawlessly

Hello Pavel_N.:

Thank you very much for your response.

According to our information, for the Intel® Dual Band Wireless-N 7265 there is an OS limitation, here is the link where you can confirm that under "essentials":

So, in order to make sure about the compatibility between them, I will transfer the thread to our Networking Support Department where they will be able to further assist you.

Hello:

Thank you very much to jasonNUC and N. Scott Pearson for the comments provided above and for clarifying the previous information, on the link provided posted previously it says "M.2 Card Slot (wireless) indicates presence of an M.2 slot that's keyed for wireless expansion cards", in some NUC's the wireless card is soldered to the NUC, for this specific model that is not the case so you can replace it for a compatible wireless card.

On the following link you will confirm that the wireless card is pre-installed on the NUC but not soldered which means you can replace it, page 14:

Hello,

We can confirm that the Intel® Wireless Adapters, 7265 and 7260 series are available in M.2 2230 Form Factor, so these models can fit in the internal connector of this NUC.

It is important to mention that Intel® NUCs normally are not whitelisted, and some models of the 7265 series are actually shown as compatible in the http://www.intel.com/content/dam/support/us/en/documents/boardsandkits/nuc-kits/NUC5CPYH_NUC5PPYH_IntegrationGuide02.pdf Intel® NUC Kit NUC5PPYH Integration Guide.

Also, these adapters are supported in Windows® 10. The latest driver package at this time is https://downloadcenter.intel.com/download/26528/Wireless-Intel-PROSet-Wireless-Software-and-Drivers-for-Windows-10?product=83635 Intel® PROSet/Wireless Software and Drivers for Windows® 10 [19.30.0].

Please consider the following:

- Make sure you are using the drivers and software previously recommended. Before installing the new package, it is advised to remove the Intel® PROSet/Wireless Software from Programs, and the Network Adapter driver from Device Manager.

- Confirm that the antennas are firmly plugged, as seen in step 3 of the Integration Guide document we linked before.

Regards,

Jonathan.
