    750 in a Supermicro

      I want to install a 750 1.2Tb PCIe SSD in a server as a data only drive - Supermicro X10SAE uses a Xeon E3-1245v3 with a C226 PCH running Windows Server 2008R2.  I have a PCIe 3.0x16 slot available and the bios supports UEFI.  Intel recommends but does not require a Z97 or X99 for a data only drive.  Are there any issues that might prevent me from using a 750 in this environment?

          Hello Beanpole,

          Thanks for posting in our forum.
          Regarding the Intel® SSD 750 series, we do recommend you to check this link, there is a list of boards we have tested and even though yours is not in the list, the port that the drive requires is the PCIe 3.0 or 2.0 x4 for the type of drive you have.
          The drive requires the latest NVMe* driver to be installed once the OS is installed.

          Now, regarding your motherboard, we highly recommend to check with the manufacturer, this since the chipset for the motherboard was launched on 2013, before NVMe* technology and we cannot guarantee it will be fully supported.

            Thanks for the info - it looks like I'm treading on thin ice trying to bring that server into todays world.  An alternate server with windows server 2012 R2 (also a supermicro X10 DAL-i) uses the xeon E5-2620v4 with a C612 PCH.  Perhaps that PCH being much newer is a better fit for the 750?

              We have seen customers using the Intel® C612 Chipset with the Intel® SSD 750 series and it works; However, we do suggest you to check  with your motherboard's manufacturer to get a confirmation of this motherboard having NVMe* support PCIe.
