Dell Inspiron 5559 using Intel dual band wireless AC-3160 // Performance Issues

Hi,

I have a Dell Inspiron 5559 laptop with Intel Dual band Wireless AC 3160 adapter. System is loaded with Windows 10. The wireless adapter performs pathetically. The internet speed that I receive is half what my ISP provides. On my other laptop which has other adapter works perfectly and I get the promised ISP speed. This rules out the issues with my ISP and any obstacles.

I upgraded the driver with both at manufacturer's website and via Intel Driver Update Utility and the issue still persits. My router supports Wireless Network (2.4GHz b/g/n).

I also followed instructions listed here: http://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/support/network-and-i-o/wireless-networking/000005544.html?wapkw=wifi+recommended+settings Recommended Settings for 802.11n Connectivity but to my disappointment it doesn't work at all.

What else I can do to fix this issue ?

Hello rakesh_reddy,

We have moved your question to it's own thread, as the issue you're experiencing is very different than the one on the/thread/107690 original thread.

In this case we can provide some simple suggestions, but will need to get some more information in order to provide a more in-depth answer, if they don't resolve your issues.

Our main recommendation here will be to perform a clean installation of your wireless drivers, as opposed to an upgrade. We can suggest trying this process with the system specific drivers provided by your computer manufacturer first, and if the performance issues remain, you may repeat the steps using our generic driver instead.

This is what you will need to do:

  1. Download and save your wireless drivers to an easy to find location.
    1. http://www.dell.com/support/home/us/en/04/Drivers/DriversDetails?driverId=MVH6C&fileId=3571266854&osCode=WT64A&productCode=inspiron-15-5559-laptop&languageCode=en&categoryId=NI Dell*
    2. https://downloadcenter.intel.com/download/26469 Intel® Generic, Driver only version. (Wireless_19.20.3_Driver64_Win10.zip)
  2. http://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/support/network-and-i-o/wireless-networking/000005587.html Uninstall Intel® PROSet Wireless Software // http://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/support/network-and-i-o/wireless-networking/000005756.html Uninstall Intel® Wireless Drivers.
    1. Make sure to select the options to delete the drivers, and/or discard all saved settings.
  3. Reboot your computer
  4. Install your choice of wireless drivers.
  5. Apply the recommended settings, and test your connection.

Note: Any links provided for third party tools or sites are offered for your convenience and should not be viewed as an endorsement by Intel®.

If after having tested this with both driver versions you still feel like your wireless adapter is under performing, please download and run the https://downloadcenter.intel.com/download/25293 Intel® System Support Utility. This application will scan your system, and allow you to save a log file. Please attach this file using the "advanced editor" (top right).

Best regards,

Carlos A.
