Does the i7-4790k replace a i7-4790k?
Or, did you upgrade from a lower processor?
If you upgraded, do you know for certain that your motherboard supports the i7-4790k? Even if you had a Haswell processor (and same socket), some boards cannot run the Haswell-refresh processors, even with a BIOS update.
If the motherboard does support the processor, did you make certain your board is at the proper BIOS level?
If your board does support the i7-4790k, but you are at the wrong BIOS level, re-install the lower processor, update the BIOS, then re-install the i7-4790k.
Provide the motherboard manufacturer and model number, and the previous processor full model number.

The i5-4670k is a Haswell processor, the i7-4790k is a Haswell-refresh (Devils Canyon) processor.

Now we really need to know if your motherboard supports the i7-4790k processor, and is at the proper bios level.

The gigabyte site says you need to be at F7 to use the i7-4790K.
http://www.gigabyte.com/support-downloads/cpu-support-popup.aspx?pid=4489 GIGABYTE TECHNOLOGY Socket 1150 - Intel Z87 - GA-Z87-HD3 (rev. 1.x)
Re-install the i5-4670K (which really needs to be at F6, and you are running F4), update the bios to F7, then install the i7-4790K.

Hello:
Thank you very much to Al Hill for the comments posted above.
To Valomas:
I just wanted to conform the previous information as correct, by doing a BIOS update to the latest version you should be able to use the processor with that board.
Any questions, please let me know.
